Hi guys, looking for some help. I have a 2008 Golf Mk5 gt tdi 140 dsg on 67k miles now. Gearbox is hesitant/jerky when coming to a stop like it wants to stall with sometimes a slight crunch aswel. Also sometimes a slight knock going from P-D-R. Pulling away, acceleration, and normal gear change all fine. I had a DSG service 2 months ago and hasn’t made much of a difference and no faults found. This issue is driving me mad and just want some help if it definatly is the mechatronics unit or something else? And if so what’s the best way on getting it replaced?
Any help is much appreciated, Thanks

That's weird there are no faults found. Mechatronic failure usually has the flashing P N D R symptom on dash.
I have a similar symptom but my fault code is speed sensor in box. Code comes back constantly but drives ok other than the thing you said. What Did you use to scan the car? VCDS?

No flashing P N D R mate as I have read about this before and kept my eye on it! I didn’t personally scan it myself, my local VW specialist did when I had the dsg service so not too sure on what they have used tbh. If somebody was close I wouldn’t mind travelling and doing a check myself so I know for certain. How tricky is it to replace the speed sensor?

It's not too hard to replace the speed sensor apparently but you need to find a garage who knows a bit about dsg boxes as a few I emailed were useless and said I had to replace the whole mechatronic unit which is bull, once I emailed the blueprint of the gearbox they didn't reply lol.

Had my Mechatronics go at 75k.. New one is crazy money, but got mine refurbished for just over £1300.
When mine went, it starting to miss gear changes, or do 2 up or down, before eventually stopping in 1st... Luckily I was a mile from VW and limped it in, but the refurb seems to have done the trick..

Mine doesn’t miss gear change or go up 2 gears. It’s fine apart from being abit jumpy coming to a stop and changing to P-D or P-R. Maybe I’ll have a word with the garage I use see what they think :happy2:

This sounds more like a clutch/oil level problem, i had the same issues, they were solved with a new clutch pack, but first check the oil level.

Could be worn engine/gearbox mounts

Thanks for the reply’s guys! I had a dsg service not even 6 months ago but how would I check the oil level in the gearbox? And how much roughly is a new clutch pack if you don’t mind me asking?
I’m no mechanic but I can have a look at the mounts this weekend when I get time!
Thanks again :happy2:

Check this video:
A new clutch pack is 330£ here:

Gear oil level check is something to do check first. Also with vcds do a basic settings relearn. So box can find its new bite points. As any box that's done a few miles will go out of sync as the clutches wear.
My ed30 dsg was clonking on initial pull away, u'd take foot off brake n have to apply small bit of throttle b4 it'd move forward , with a few not nice noise's to boot. Now after a basic settings done the car 'just' starts to want to creep forward as u take foot off brake and no horrible noise's.
Hope this helps.
