Title: MOT query
Post by: GTIEagles on April 23, 2018, 11:38:52 am
Hi,

I have just had my car MOT'd (it failed) and it's come back with a list of advisories as long as my arm!

These two in particular caught my eye:

Nearside Rear Radius arm ball joint dust cover deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt (2.4.G.2)
Offside Rear Radius arm ball joint dust cover deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt (2.4.G.2)

I'm unsure what part of the rear suspension this is referring to, any ideas?

Thanks

Phil

I don't think we have rear ball joins. It could just be an error by the tester. Take a wheel off and have a look at the front ones.

If it is the fronts you can get TRV ones from ECP for about £40

Thanks, I didn't think they had either  I replaced the fronts last year so it definitely can't be that.

The rear drop links off the ARB have ball joints

Ah, that will probably be what they were referring to. Are these easy to replace? I don't mind tackling it myself if it's not difficult.

Just like any ARB drop link.....make sure the whole rear is level, so no tension is on the bar in the air

Tighten up the lower when the car is on the ground, unless you are able to jack up the rear suspension
