Title: Looking for a Mk5 GTi
Post by: slynch23 on April 25, 2018, 10:24:15 pm
New member here. Looking to get a mk5 gti in the coming weeks, after wanting one since I was about 16 (now 28). Unfortunately all I seem to be finding online is modified and remapped cars. I want one that’s completely standard. Not too bothered about which optional extras it has apart from the satnav and 3 door is a must(I think they’re better looking). I really like the look of the tartan seats but can’t help thinking the leathers are a better option? Also, can you have heated Tartan seats? If anyone is selling one that isn’t red or silver please get in touch. Constantly checking the for sale page on here as I want one that’s been owned by an enthusiast and not abused.

There is quite few low mileage gti's about unfortunate for me I'm in Liverpool and 95% of cars are down south or way up north.

I found mine on Autotrader. Totally stock, Shadow Blue, leather seats, satnav, one owner, 61k and a full service history with all maintenance done at a VW dealer. I was very lucky, you just have to keep looking they go quick! Also the satnav was rubbish and out of date by a few years  :signLOL:

I don’t really want it for the satnav, as daft as it sounds. It’s just a nicer unit than the standard CD player, if he right car comes up without it I’ll just fit one myself. Still no joy. They all seem to be red or silver!

Hi. Have you tried the Auto Trader app?
I recently bought a Mk5 GTI, after completely the same. No mods, 3 door, black leather etc. I don’t think you can get heated cloth seats but could be wrong. Where abouts are you from / what’s your budget?

I’ve been on auto trader checking every day. Today I found one that I’m happy with but have a few queries if anyone would like to help. It’s got 90,000 on the clock which is higher than I’d want, would like one in the 70’s but my budget of 5 grand doesn’t seem to be enough. Is the mileage too high? Will there be any common faults around the corner on this mileage? It’s only had one owner, 56 plate, 11 service stamps and the cam belt done at 58k in 2015. Other than need the cam belt done again next year I can’t see any other problems with it? The car looks like it has been well looked after with no expense spared, all 4 alloys look brand new and it has the all important sat nav. Luckily sold my rx8 today so going to view it tomorrow. Any advice on what to look for would be greatly appreciated!

Keep on looking OP. After some initial reservations and a few dodgy traders, I finally found a private seller with a 2 owner mint Steel Grey 5 door GTI with low mileage less than 50 miles from my door.

From my search I can say heated cloth seats are a possibility. Seems like alot of leather on the market though if you don't mind compromising on that.

Yes, you can have heated tartan seats. Mine has them. I think it's the winter pack, with heated headlight washers, etc.

Yes it’s winter pack you need to look out for.

90k, good service history and one owner is pretty good for a 2006. It depends how the car has been driven in that time really. See how it sounds and drives when you view it. Check for rust on the sill where the bottom of the wing meets the bottom of the door it’s quite common on mk5’s but ok if it’s been found and fixed early on.

Mine is on 97k, two owners from new... Mine drives like new, mileage doesn't mean anything as long as it's been looked after properly!
