Noticed on the way home tonight that every time I went over a speed bump, or hit a pothole there seemed to be a metallic knock from the rear of the car.
It sounded more like the sound a loose metal grate makes when you drive over it rather than a sound a worn drop link makes.
Had a look under the car tonight and on first glance I can’t see any loose exhaust bits, heat shields etc. Tried rocking the rear of the car but struggled to replicate the sound it makes when driving.
Any ideas what it could be before I take it down to the garage?

I had the same noise i thought it was coming from the back but it was a snapped spring on my front passenger side.
Does it make the noise when you go over a speed bump and if so which wheel going over the bump causes it to make it

Sounds like the rear passenger side. I thought a snapped spring but rears looked okay. Will have to check fronts out

check heat shilds as well

Yeah I gave them a quick check over and all looked ok. I’ll take it down to the garage and get them to look at it up on the ramps, hopefully will be something easy to fix like that.
-
no worries hopefully its a simple cheap fix for you

Had same issue couple of weeks ago. Turned out to be cover plate for discs, cheap to replace if so.

Sorry forgot to update...
- car was knocking Thursday and Friday to and from work so I arrange for my local garage to take a look Saturday morning
- first thing Saturday I drive up to garage and car is making knocking noise on the way
- mechanic takes car out for test drive and says it made no noise for him
- I tell him I'm defiantly not hearing things so he puts car on the ramps and has a good check around all suspension bits, heat shields, exhaust and can find no problem what so ever
- I then drive car home and its not made a noise since!!
So I have no idea what was causing the noise, but ill look at the cover plate for the discs if it returns...
