Title: Golf tail lights in the UK
Post by: wlallen on May 26, 2018, 01:50:34 am
I recently installed some UK Golf tail lights on my 08 Golf (Rabbit).  I also install two additional wires from the tails to the CECM so that it can be wired like the non-North American Golfs.  After getting the center ambers for turn signals I notice that I only have the outer halves of the tails for brakes.  The inner halves are only parking lights.

Can someone confirm to me that in the UK (or anywhere outside of North America) that only half of the tails light up bright for brakes or does the entire circle of the tail act as a brake light?  In NA since the center amber is not used for a turn signal, the outer half of the tail is parking/brake/turn signal and the inner half of the tail is parking/brake.  I can't find a combination of coding in VCDS to make the inner half work as a brake light.

Thanks,

That’s correct, here in the UK it is only half the circle for brake lights

I've considered them but my wallet says I don't think so.  Three kids in college so my car budget is limited.

someone posted on the mk5 facebook group about adding a wire across the tracks on the bulb holder, this powers the other half of the circle giving you the full ring for brake lights, I'll see if I find the post and post up the picture of the link needed
