I have a 2008 Golf GtI which I have recently replaced the small cooling fan on after I noticed the old one would never work. I've just had the AC re gassed today as it was blowing out warm air. The guy who did the regas told me he has re gassed it but the condenser wasn't working. Is this the likely cause?
I'm Not sure if this is related or not, but since putting on the new small fan, it'll only ever spin on full, not just slowly spin like it's meant to.
Any ideas?
Thanks

You sure he said the condenser or the compressor. The condenser is like a radiator that sits at the front.
Is the fan running all the time?

It's the compressor that is known to be faulty. I've replaced both my AC compressors. One only had a faulty gas pressure regulator valve, but I didn't know before buying the new compressor, just after removing the old compressor and testing it.

Have you seen the big fan working? Both fans should spin with the A/C on. If only the small one is spinning, the big one is dead. The big one is important to keep the engine cool, so I would get that seen to sharpish now that summer has finally arrived.
If the AC pump is working, there is normally an increase in idle speed when set to LO to counter the increased load. Does that happen in yours?
Condensers can and do fail. If they don't crack from stones, they fill up with debris, being the first radiator in the stack. Did the regasser use some dye to trace for leaks?

Thanks for the replies. Sorry I meant to put compressor instead of condenser. The big fan works fine when the engine gets up to temperature, so I think that is working all okay. And no the idle speed doesn't change when the AC is turned on.
When you say AC pump, is that the compressor?
And the guy who re gassed it checked for leaks and there weren't any.
Thanks
