Hi guys, I’m looking at getting a rcd330 and they say you have to update the gateway to avoid battery drain. I already have a satnav in my car so will I still need to do this? Not sure which one it is but I’ve seen them in quite a few used GTi’s. It’s pretty cheap looking and needs a disc for the satnav. I’d upload a photo if I could figure out how on an iPhone! Any info is much appreciated.

If your golf is pre 07, yes you need to update it. I can sell you precoded one for your golf.

It’s a 56 plate so yes. How much?

Not necessarily. There is a canbus translator you can get which the seller says will stop battery drain and allow steering controls to work with the RCD330.
I'll see if I can find the link.

I used this Canbus adapter with an rcd330g and it worked a treat, steering controls all worked fine too.

Changed my canbus today after RNS 510 Q caused battery drain. Bought second hand AD prefix canbus off eBay for £20 delivered, all fitted & coded in about 20 minutes :happy2:

Did you buy it precoded? If so, could you send me a link
