Are there any guides on here for removing the front and rear anti roll bars. My bushes need doing and I want to powder coat them as the paint is flaking.

Thanks! Dropping the subframe for the fronts seems like a ball ache way of doing it. Probably that or spend an hour trying to wiggle it out
-
I think it’s the ONLY way to do it unfortunately. I can’t see the bar coming out any other way, and obviously an alignment will be required afterwards, which the ECS video fails to mention. And the replacement of numerous stretch bolts.
On top of that, on some cars the bush brackets are part of the arb itself and need curtting off.
I would recommend fitting the rear bar yourself as it’s easy, just be careful in the wet and in high speed corners. Then save up a number of front end jobs and get the front one done at that time.

Its easy if you have a 4 post lift...... not so easy if you are trying to do it f*cking about on axle stands.

Double that, cubed.
Anything involving the subframe on stands is a ball ache. I am still traumatised by the Tyrol deadset.

I don't know about other brands of ARB, but Eibach ship theirs with clamps/bushes prefitted to the troublesome front bar, which cuts out a lot of faffing about :congrats:

KW also come with bushes and brackets.

Thanks for the help. I'll do the rear one myself and get the car on a ramp to do the front. I was planning on getting the alignment done after as it was the alignment guys that suggested doing the bushes before they done the alignment as the bushes were worn.
I was going to do the subframe spacer kit bolts so the subframe would need slightly dropping for that anyway. What other bolts are stretch bolts that would need undoing and replacing?

Yeah. Balkache.
It’s also worth noting that if you have a front subframe that currently makes no noise, once you f*ck about with it then it will make noises until the end of time. You have been warned.

Funny you buy that Pudding, I'm eyeing up the H&R 28/24 ones atm for my next mod - what made you pick Eibach?
Molesy :happy2:

Ok, that's that out of the question then. No subframe knocking at the moment.

I’ve found that the first couple times I didn’t replace the bolts I ended up with knocking and clicking from the subframe. The next time I dropped it I replaced ALL bolts, been fine since...

Mainly because they are cheaper than the H&Rs and readily available :happy2: The sizing (26/23) suited my preferences also. Really big bars can make the car a bit too playful in the wet. Playful meaning dangerous if you're not accustomed to big ARB characteristics on bumpy roads

Cheers @Pudding (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10733) makes sense, I've still not made firm plans but that is certainly something think about. Will be interesting to hear your thoughts when you have them fitted mate.

The rear one has been on for a week or so and that alone has reduced steering effort into corners :happy2: I put it on the softest setting until the front one is fitted.
Both of my front drop links are seized at the ARB end, which is why I haven't done that bar yet. So with that in mind, I strongly recommend getting a set of 4 drop links before embarking on this job. The M6 spline rounds out super easy.
I don't recommend fitting just a rear bar. It's fun for sure, but will be even better with both bars. Think of a table with a burly chap at each end fighting each other to tilt it. With just the rear bar fitted, that chap is now much stronger than the other chap, so that end of the table will lift up a lot easier than the front :happy2:

That ECS Tuning video guide is a load of garbage.
I've written a guide :happy2: - http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,117626.0.html
And yes, the front one is a complete pain in the arse!
