Curious which of you go to VW to get mechanical work done, and/or services.
We all know FDSH can be a good thing for resale value, but also that dealerships are more expensive than independents, with no real guarantee of better quality work.
(I've just spent £800 at VW, so it got me thinking!)

I have used a VW dealer for every service and MOT since the car was new. I have nothing but good things to say about VW Kettering
I have not had any other work done on the car outside of routine services but would still go to Kettering
It is also very convenient Sam it is local and I can drop it in and take a courtesy car home

I use my local VW independent specialists normally (about 30-40 minute drive), I'm generally not fussed about the official VW stamps as long the work is being done properly and is within interval. They also order from TPS if genuine parts are required for repairs (i.e. Cambelt + Waterpump) but give you a OE equivalent option for other jobs to keep costs down and provide VAT invoice receipts for the work they do.
The good thing is my local indy generally perform servicing and maintenance jobs for half the price VW ask for at their official dealership and offer part upgrades and installation which is something VW wouldn't touch. For me its a no brainer.

It depends how good the dealer is and what relationship you have with them.
I have built up a 20+ year relationship with mine and the parts guys look after me
I enjoy doing the work myself, I like the challenge, but for cambelts, service stamps and parts, it goes to the dealer. And some days I just can’t be arsed to crawl around under the car grazing my knuckles and crooking my neck, so for jobs like clutches etc, it’s off to my favourite indy.
