Title: Oil Question
Post by: ady-gti on February 12, 2010, 12:42:02 pm
I've just got some new oil delivered from VW to service my Edition 30 and it's Quantum Platinum 5W-40W which I'm not sure is the correct stuff to use. I've only known castrol edge 5w-30w to be put in it so the spec of the oil has change aswell as the brand.

I can't find much information as to what VW's this oil is ok for, even though I did provide them with my reg' number when ordering the parts. I don't want to use the wrong oil for the car!

Is this oil ok for the car? and is it a good quality oil to use?

Cheers.

Quantum is VW's own brand oil.  Re packaged Castrol oil so the oil itself is very high quality.  Can't help you with the grade, that said I think Quantum Platinum is the LL oil ...

Thanks for that. From what I can gather it's just the normal oil and not any type of long life oil so I'm not using it. That being said that main thing that got me thinking was it was less than £30 for 5 liters, so not even half the price than castrol edge.

It does look ok for oil for normal vw's, including diesels, but for me I want the best oil as it will have a hard life doing the occasional trackday so I'm not going to skimp on oil.
