Title: Upholsterers
Post by: andrewparker on February 13, 2010, 04:55:51 pm
Hi all, I was cleaning my car this morning and discovered that the stitching on one of the drivers seats has come apart. I'm pretty shocked because the car has done less than 30K and I'm not exactly a heavyweight!

I was wondering if anyone knew anyone in the North-West who could sort this out?

Is it something VW would look at themselves?

My car just hit 56 000 miles and is just starting to go now, that is why I have changed the seats before this happened, as they would be hard to sell on in that condition, doesn't look like too big a job to sort out yourself though to be honest.

Warranty? Or is this considered fair wear and tear?

I think the dealer would try the Wear and tear angle..................  or if they did attempt a fix, you may end up with more problems, with badly fitting seat covers.  Try and find a car upholsterer and he should be able to assist you.

I'm getting the seat and back rest of my driver Recaro seat changed under warranty.

I wasn't happy with the wear after 15months and 30K miles of usage.

I may have a go myself. The car is an 06 so is out of warranty. I just don't do much mileage in it.

I always thought the seats looks really good quality, so I'm surprised this has happened.

Think its a problem due to the seats being so well fitted (to a normal sized person anyway) that anything other than that can cause wear wuite easily. I cannot sit in the drivers seat with a wallet in my back pocket, as it presses on the side of the seat around the  :booty: area, and it caused slight wear to the shape of the bolstering.

I'd go and see Premier Cartrim in Warrington, they trimmed my whole Corrado in my sig and would be able to sort that out for very reasonable money and guarantee their work.  :drinking:

All depends on how much you want trimming. I have had my seats, full door cards, gear gaitor, sterring wheel, bottom of my dash, all pillars, roof lining, sunroof, seals, parcel shelf, shelf supports, tailgate surround and tailgate panel!

They do seats and door cards from about 1k (mk4 golf) and obviously more the more you have trimmed like I did.

They give a lifetime gaurantee which is great, shows how confident they are. I actually scuffed a bit of my trim and they happily repaired it for free!

 :jumpmove:

I can show pics of mine if needed.

Also, MJ Interiors in Shipley is VERY good, all depends on who is closer, I use both so up to you.

They do full retrims (Seats and door cards) from less than 1k onwards in any colour! So not pricey at all!  :happy2:
