Locked injector - should I be worried?
Hi, this is about a MK6, but I guess it fundamentally the same as the MK5.
Car was running very rough, white smoke mixed with black smoke. Had the car recovered to a local dealer and thought it was a blown turbo!
Dealer states locked injectors on cylinder 3 and 4 (fault codes I guess) but it was completely normal on their test drive after a night in the compound.
Anyone else had this and should I be worried about two injectors going shortly? Or could it be
- Bad fuel
- Spark plugs
- Coil packs
Thank you!

Don’t know if it’s me but I always view injectors as service items.......maybe others have different views

They definitely are on the MK5, but apparently the MK6 is worse for injector and HPFP problems.
If an injector was locked open, the cylinder would have a lot of fuel in it a couple of hours after shutdown. The rail pressure would also fall to zero pretty quickly. You would also see the short term trims going mad in VCDS.....max'd at full lean.

Thanks, whats the cost of a MK5 injector (I guess the MK6 is similar)

Plenty of <£100 options online. P/N - 06H906036G
Dealer price will be over £100.

Thanks, I've done some web research and although the part is cheap, people are paying £600 for a single replacement, lots of mechanic hours, seals etc
What is a typical cost in your experience, indie or dealer?

£600 to replace 1 injector is very steep. All 4 should be replaced because, as you say, it's a beefy job labour wise. You don't want to have to repeat the work when injectors 1 & 2 fail.
Say £300 for injectors + 2-3 hours labour, should bring you out at the £500 mark.....but all 4 will be done. May as well chuck in another 100 whilst you're there for a walnut blast. That's indie pricing. Stealership will be a grand I reckon.
Edit: the dealer price is steep because the injectors are £100+VAT each, + 4 x fitting kits at £25+VAT each, plus the labour at £100+VAT p/h. The online injectors come with the teflon seals prefitted, which is a massive cost and time saver.

Thanks, this post mentions a £1000 cost for two http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21124
But more importantly mentions that 06H 906 036G was replaced in 2014 by 06H 906 036P any evidence the newer ones are more reliable?
Will any independent automatically add a manifold gasket to the job or will I need to tell him?

I would of thought they’d quote and supply one. But me being me I’d check with them to make sure they do put a new one in.

I am almost certain I paid £600 plus vat for all mine changed at my dealers (don’t know if any of you boys know that some parts come under heritage so a cheaper price is applied 😄)
Cannot lay my hands on invoice at mo to confirm 😫

Interesting, what is this heritage scheme, something for cars over 10 years old?

In a word yes :booty:
But you need to make them aware you know about it otherwise they will fob you off .......oh labour is also cheaper as well :pomppomp:
But again you need to ask and tell them you belong to a classic car club

Is this heritage thing only at VW dealers or will TPS be part of this too?

£600+VAT to replace all 4 at a dealer is a steal! I paid that just for 4 injectors (inc VAT) from the dealer! They were S3/ED30 ones though, which may be a bit more money.

Update, not had the problem again, however:
- Local indy is quoting £1000 for four injectors
- Got myself a Torque Pro Elm 327 bluetooth reader and right now the car is show no logged faults
