Title: GTI Stolen **UPDATE**
Post by: DPG on February 16, 2010, 09:50:05 pm
Hi guys

came home from work and was just turning up my road in my GF's car when i saw my GTI at the bottom of the road.

I jumped out and ran accross the road but the scally saw me and spead off. A silver A3 was close behind so i think that was the other part of the team.

They had broken my house door and searched for the keys, the fookers also took both my HDTV's and my laptop.

Keep your eye our for a black 3 door, 17" alloys with a private plate ending DPG

My GTI ownership was short (6months) and i think i'll end up getting something a little less desirable next (unless the police find my car)

The ANPR cameras will only work if the car remains on your plates.
Stick a false plate on it and they can run about in it until they do something stupid.
You say there was an  silver A3 in the company, have the police noted this?
Are there any stolen silver A3 in your area?
Starter for ten there I think :happy2:

go for a drive, around some residential areas? are there any distinguishing markings other than the plate?

that's terrible mate, same happened to me in June when they took 2 cars.

ours got spotted by ANPR's but nothing came of it, my wife's car got recovered today in Lincolnshire (i'm in Lancs) - sounds like some poor bugger thought they got a bargain that turned out to be a stolen motor :(

hope they catch the buggers

Shikes crime is going up and up and up... yet we can't use force on them :scared: :surprised:

Firstly, sorry to hear about the theft mate, that really does suck for you.
Secondly, Rich, This is the second time recently when theft/police has been mentioned that people have jumped up with the argument that you cannot do anything. You can!!! As long as it is proportionate, legitimate, accountable and necesdsary, fill those criteria and you can do what you like. There was a guy in West Mids who stabbed a burglar 10 times with a kitchen knife in his house, and he did not get charged with it, because the bloke was putting up such a fight that the victim felt that 10 stabs was what was required to protect himself.
Sorry to rant, just so that you all know for in future.

Sorry to hear about your GTi :(

Of course the Police are interested !!!  They are realistic though in what they are going to find - a keyed car particularly but also a broken into car is not as easy to get someone for once they have made off as someone driving a GTi... a keyed car will get you sympathy but they can't perform miracles.

I am sure the index will be circulated but officers with an interest in cars tend to remember performance cars that have been nicked and stop ones they see to check them out - regardless of the data from the police national computer.  It doesn't take long to work out if a car is still on a legit plate or not and *most* drivers are happy you do the check as if it were their car nicked they would want the same done.

I stopped a white Edition 30 about a year back for this very reason after one was stolen near me and put up on here (or at least it was on one of the VW sites).  The owner was only subjected a very quick chat and check as I know what to look for and am not interested in holding someone up when it is a genuine driver !  I didn't post the fact I'd stopped a car as a result of the post - and no one ever would ....

What I am getting at it that officers would much rather get someone in a stolen car than deal with the usual dross so please don't think they are not going to be interested - they own cars too and know their value !  Equally they feel for people who have them damaged and broken into - but it doesn't mean they are going to catch anyone which they usually know when it is reported .....

Sorry to hear about this mate  :sad1:

Did you say you were walking or in another car?

I was in my girlfriends car when i saw mine at the bottom of the road.

For some reason the theifs had stopped to chat - the silver A3 was parked along side.

I jumped out and ran across the road but they saw me and just sped off, only 1 meter away from hitting me.

Cops reckon that the silver A3 has been nicked in the past week and has been seen going to and from Bradford in the last few days so thats where they reckon my car will end up.

Well my GTI was found in Bradford

Someone had notified the police that 3 scallys (2 White, 1 Asian) have been seen driving a black GTI.

When the car was recovered it had been cloned with a GTI from Manchester, so if you are from Manchester and have a 57 plate balck 3 door GTI possibly advertised for sale then it could be yours.

The police said that they will try contact the owner over the next few days.

Question.

As my insurance company have already paid out and now own the car, will i be allowed to swap the RNS510 (if its still in the car)with the original RCD300?

Not sure where i stand with this as it wasnt declared.

I suppose technically the car isn't yours now so any interference/swapping could be construed as theft.

Makes me sick living in Bradford.

There was a big story in the local paper a couple years back now about a gang of lads stealing cars and I went to school with a couple of them...scum.

Need to get me some money saved up and get away from this sh*thole of a city.

No mate, i havent spoke with the insurance company as they were shut today.

I've to drive over to SOS tomorrow to hand over my spare key so SOC can do their forensic stuff.

Chungster, my insurance company (LV) paid out in 6 days.
Title: Re: GTI Stolen **UPDATE**

I have my building and contents (home) insurance through LV, they are without a shadow of doubt the best company out there.
And I wouldn't hesitate recommending them to anyone.
Title: Re: GTI Stolen **UPDATE**
Post by: DPG on February 28, 2010, 10:23:13 am
Just been over to Bradford to hand over the spare key.

My car had obviously been involved in another incident as there are massive dents and pix-axe holes on the boot

All the rear windows had been sprayed black from the inside and the stereo has been taken.

The guy at SOS said they had 6 stolen recovered black Golfs in at the same time just before Christmas.

PS, if anyone buys an RNS510 (version c) with a tiny little nic just above the MAP button then let me know

I don't believe it is the police saying 'deal with it,' seems more a case of being realistic.
When I go to this sort of job, I do not lie to the victims, I tell them what will be done, but not to get false hope.
Loads of cars being nicked in Wolverhampton at the moment though as well, and loads of burglaries too.

Matt, I honestly have no idea. I don't think its one of those things you can say what you would do, unless the situation has arisen already, I would like to say that I would try to defend myself and my family the best I could,But then looking at it realistically, they want my car, not me or my family. Probably the best thing to do is give them what they want, but try to get the best description, or any features that could help them to get caught in future.
I just hope this doesn't happen to anyone here, but it does seem to be happening more and more.

Having been in this situation I can honestly say that the first thing you think about is protecting your family.  I did not want anything to happen to my wife due to my actions.  At the end of the day a car is just metal and rubber, it can be replaced.

You don't know what they have on them or how many of them are downstairs, in my case i had 2 in the bedroom and 1 downstairs.  All i wanted was them out of my house and no-one harmed.  :happy2:
