Not a GTi problem, but an issue with my wife's Mk5 Match.
Basically sometimes the red LED on the drivers door can be a bit random. Very occasionaly when driving along i would notice that its either flashing, or on constantly.
Anyone any idea why it would do this?

My car did this and it ended up being the horn siren that was replaced through warranty!!!
but if your car is out of warranty im pretty sure it will cost you about near £200

Get it checked out it could be your door control module or a locking mechanism that is failing.
I had a similar problem. When I locked the car sometimes the LED was on all the time other times it flashed as normal. After a month or so it stayed on all the time.
Out of curiosity I thought I would see if the alarm was still working. I dropped the windows and locked the car.
The alarm still worked BUT one of the deadlocks had gone faulty. All the doors locked but I could reach in (through the open window  ) and open it.
The part was replaced under warranty. The technician did say that there had been a number of door control modules had failed and that was indicated by the door LED.

Balls, the car was out of warranty last year.
Would VAGcom pick this up?
-
I think so. They plugged "their" system in and it showed a fault on a door module. Hope you get it sorted.

VW issued a technical service bulletin for this fault on the MK5.
If your car is out of warranty you could try and get it changed out of goodwill, seeing as they know there is an issue with duff parts.
Incidentally, my car does this sometimes but usually if I lock/unlock it, it sorts itself out.

Mine too, only noticed it twice in the past year though

Aye, hers is the same. If its going to cost circa £200 to fix i think ill let it continue!

Mine did too. But, it got to the point where the LED was on all the time.
