Title: VW golf gti mk5 strange noise after camshaft chain changed
Post by: vojtechson on March 21, 2019, 04:18:06 pm
Hey guys,
I have just replaced my cam chain and tensioner on my GTI mk5 and it makes strange noise when the connector controlling the camshaft adjustement is connected (when not, it runs sweet) , althought the connector is in a bad shape, it wasn't doing this sound before I changed the chain, is there any chance that I have missed a tooth on chain and sprockets or do you think the problem might be in the connector itself?
I was using proper VW tools to lock cams so I hope everything should be in proper time.

hi mate, that doesn't sound good at all does it! and very strange!

Even with the genuine tools, your cams will/can still move slightly and can indeed knock it out a tooth! Trust me.. I know!

When I was out a tooth you could hear the engine misfire every few seconds. start your engine and once idle has settled listen for a miss! you'll know if its out a tooth! (leave the VVT connector disconnected)
