Title: Airbag light deactivated MOT fail?
Post by: hussnainh8 on April 03, 2019, 12:23:59 am
Hi

Quick question.. I have deactivated the driver and passenger side airbags which when starting the car, flashes the airbag light and shows a "airbag deactivated" message on the display. My question is..  Is this an MOT failure or will the car still pass? Its not a fault in the system, the side airbags have been disabled because the car has been fitted with aftermarket recaros.

The car is an edition 30 2007. If this is a failure, is there any other way to get rid of the airbag light?

Thanks.

Use resistors at the connectors.

Its questionable. This is an extract from the manual - deactivated passenger airbag is not a fault with the system and if the dash does not confirm whether its passenger side or both sides then I think you could blag a pass. Me personally I would have resistors as that message on every start would annoy me.

7.1.5 Airbags
This inspection is for all airbags fitted as original equipment other than on Class 3 vehicles.

A passenger airbag that is switched off isn’t a defect.

Defect                                                                         Category
An airbag fitted as original equipment obviously missing      Major

An airbag obviously inoperative                                          Major

How much ohm resistor am I using? Says 2.2ohm or 3.7ohm?

Thanks.
