Good evening.
Im new to the forum, so please forgive me if im a bit of a newbie lol. I may have the chance to buy a black mkv gti 06 reg with 32000 miles on the clock. I have a good deal set up, but the one thing im a bit concerned about is that it has a sunroof. Now i understand that this is quite rare, but what are people opinions on a sunroof on the GTI? Does anyone know of any kind of problems with them? I have also seen a 07 plate black GTI with 44000 miles on the clock with no sunroof. Which one would you have?
cheers

A sunroof wouldnt put me off in the slightest mate, i'd love one on mine!
The days of leaky troublesome sunroofs are well behind us, definately a nice option to have imo..
-
A sunroof brightens up the dark interior, and you can make it dark if and when you want by pulling the blind across.
I have a sunroof on mine and love it. Also had no problems with it.
-
Mines got a SunRoof never had any issues. Never used it either to be honest dont really see the point when you have climate control.
-
I like it not for the cooling but for the lighting. Its great to have it open on a nice day, feels like you are sitting in the garden. I would prefer a panoramic one like I used to have on a Mini I had a few years ago they are great.
-
Dont think i have even opened up the blind!! Will have to give it a try when the weather picks up...
-
Could be a long wait

Not heard of any problems with a sunroof, nice to have and like you say not many do have them. I had one on mine and it was a nice feature.
Its part of the auto-close too when you hold the keyfob down it shuts the windows and then the roof.

Thanx for the feed back so far :happy2:

Indeed its snowing well outside at the moment Joy!! :sad1:

some people wont buy a car without one, it was the clincher on my current one, if i couldnt have the roof i didnt want to order..simples
better to have it than not, if you dont use it then so be it, summer is alot nicer with it, fresh air FTW
if its a structural integrity question then the shell isnt compromised for it being in place :happy2:
-
In the summer i use my sun roof all the time instead of the c/c blasting out
-
In cars of old i used to have them - was good to leave open in the summer if you had to park the car so it wasnt as hot when you came back to the car. To an extent the addition of aircon negates it a bit but ETTO.
Personally i wouldnt be bothered either way if it had one i would consider it nice but not having one doesnt bother me. If however it was a choice of sunroof OR aircon like you used to get then it would be aircon all the way.
-
Id go for newer with more miles if both were in simelar condition.
Sunroofs are all good too, i usally spend a bit of time looking for cars with a sunroof but like you said they are quite rare on the GTI
-
I made sure I specced one on my car, I love them. It's nice to have a bit of proper fresh air rather than air con, but sometimes it's too cold to put the window down (plus having the windon down messes my hair up ).
-
I had one on my .:R and didn't use it as I hated the 'chopper' effect you get if you don't have a window open.
-
i wish i had specced a sun roof when ordering mine :(

It is a problem, but can be solved (although i realise it should not need this LOL) by just opening the back window a tad
Ps love my sunroof and not had any issues with it

Thanx for the replys guys, all looking posotive for the sunroofs :happy2:. Im hopefully going to look at the car tomorrow and if all goes well and im happy with the car, then i will put a deposit down.

Good luck for tomorrow.
Yes I'd specc'd mine with a Sunroof, as many have commented, it's nice to have some extra light and fresh air. :happy2:
Don't forget the pic's if you do buy it... :driver:
-
I was delighted to find my used ED30 has one, would have bought the car either way actually, brilliant in the Summer, obviously..
-
whats the disadvantage of havin one?. mine has one and my mk4 had one, my understanding was, aircon no sunroof and no aircon then ya get a sunroof...
im prob wrong but thats what i thought...
-
Well ive put a deposit on the car now and i hopefully am going to collect the car saturday. A few bits need attention, which i have been told will all be attended to.

We don't have a sunroof on the mk5 but i started to miss the extra light and the through flow of fresh air in summer you get with one so i speced one on our mk6.

it may be true on some models but i have dual zone climate and sunroof, i do laugh when people say why do you need a sunroof when you have aircon and vice versa LOL
-
My GTI is the first car i had for ages that hasn't had a factory sun roof & i do miss it,as above great for letting in more light etc. If i had found one with it fitted i would def have had it. :happy2:.

I'd love a sunroof on mine. Our mini has a panoramic roof and i love the light it lets in and the fresh air on a lovely summers day. It's as close to an open top as I need, although the gti one is a fair bit smaller I'd imagine it's still nicer than nothing at all
