Title: New Mk5 service advice?
Post by: Fatbrat1 on April 17, 2019, 05:49:04 am
New on the forum and good to be back in a golf since I owned a classic mk2 16v over 25 years ago.

I’ve just purchased a 2008 3 door with full service history, 1 owner and 35k, inside looks and feels almost new.

Normally I would let it head towards 40k miles and get all the next scheduled services done, including the dsg oil & filter, however i’m heading to Scotland in 3 weeks time and will put nearly 1500 miles on it.     Given that it’s done very limited miles in the last few years should I get these done before I go, and what would other members suggest?

Has it had a cambelt done?  If not, it's long over due!  Every 60K or 4 years, which ever comes first.   Yours should be on it's second belt.

These cars eat mileage.  I've done 3000 miles over 3 weeks and the car just laps it up.  Very reliable if looked after.

I would do plugs, oil, and all filters, inc fuel filter.  Age can have an effect on these parts as much as mileage.  Also, how old are the tyres and brake pads?  They also go off with age and heat cycling.
