Thinking of ditching the RCD300 in my ED30.
I have the ipod adapter, but its pretty rubbish, and the unit itself doesn't play mp3 cd's.
This alpine unit is reasonable money, I don't want to spend very much, and I won't be changing the speakers.
I'm up for alternate suggestions for similar money (about £200) provided they don't look like a dogs dinner
I guess the Kenwood DPX-503U would be a possible alternative.
Any help appreciated.
James.

I'm sure it'll be a good head unit as Alpines always are, but it will look very out of place in a mk5 golf. That would suit an old Honda. Is there nothing on the market for that price range that is more smooth and rounded looking? I would never put in a stereo that didn't match up to the dash, no matter how good/cheap it was.
Just my opinion though. I used to have the top of the line Alpine a good few years ago and it was the best stereo I have ever had.
On a budget and wanting DVD, you could try this:

Alternately, you could try searching for a second hand OEM unit oin ebay. I got a brand new RCD510 from a Scirocco for £300 and it's a great unit

The look of it is a major concern, I must admit.
Perhaps I'll keep looking.

i have a single din alpine header unit in mine which looks good-think of replacing it thou but thier is nothing on the market at the mo with the spec i am after

OK, if I were to go down the RCD510 route, aside from the unit itself, of which there are a few on fleabay, what else do I need?
A different lead to the ipod lead I have in my RCD300?
An aerial adaptor?
Something else? MDI?
And lastly, someone to fit it? :-)

For £300-odd, you'd do well with this-

Pioneer..... looks really good in a Golf too. I'm going for the F900bt (when I can find one at the right time  )
Failing that, the RCD is OEM, and is a bit more up-to-date.
Either way, BURN the RCD300!!! (or hack the front off as a security panel :happy2: )
