Title: K04 turbo - Golf R
Post by: Nico2904 on April 25, 2019, 06:12:44 am
Hi. I have a Golf 6 R Stage 2 with OE K04 turbo. It have startet to "whistle". There are some play in the axle (3-4 mm side to side). Have been told, these turbos have Some Play. Car pulls fine, no issues. But selling the car and Think I have to get rid of this whistling. So I'm considering a refurbed OE Borg Wagner. But what are you guys experience? Car has 88.000 km om clock

It would be rude not to fit a hybrid at the same time!

The K04 shaft has no play along its axis, just a bit side to side to allow the oil to lubricate the bearings. Once its working the oil pressure will stabilise the side to side play.

3-4mm axial float at 88,000 KM is really bad! If it really is that worn, it's on the verge of death and needs replacing.

My KO4 at 215,000km has 1mm play.
