Been a bit lax about checking my oil lately. Slightly alarmed to get the oil warning light while whizzing down the motorway, but pleased to discover it alerts when the oil is half way between min and max on the dipstick...much better than saying when it's below min, like some cars I've known! Looked up the right oil on this very forum, got some at the services, let her cool down and tipped some in. Sorted! :happy2:

Not so sure that's correct... The oil warning light is for mainly pressure I thought and some do level but I could be wrong, others will know. The light shouldn't come on at all if its between the mark otherwise I would be getting it all the time due to the FSI's appetite for lube and throwing it out the back.
What car is it exactly?
Are you sure it wasn't pressure related? I would get this scanned sharpish as it could need the sump pickup needing to be looked at and use VCDS to check oil pressure related codes.

Does the light go off if you top the oil up?

It's a 2005 Mk5 GTi, and the light did go off after I topped it up. That said, she's due for an annual service so I'll mention it to them.

Oil level is an amber alert. Oil pressure is a red alert! Red = baaaaaaad. Amber = meh, deal with it when evs.
