Been away a while and I've been looking into some new cars.
Question is how have VW reduced the power in the 2019 R compared to the 2017 310bhp etc? I've read it's down to the exhaust but is that all?? Have any engine internals changed etc? Is it using the same engine...same engine code...310 bhp vs 297 bhp or whatever it is now?
I'm looking at either a 2019 golf R or possibly pushing the boat out to a 2017 rs3 so need to all the info I can before I take the plunge.

They now have to use a particulate filter on the downpipe due to WTLP emissions regs. Think it has been retuned for more torque though,

Cheers mate yeah I had read the same...also read somewhere that the injection system was different and possibly the exhaust valves within the head...maybe just some wrong info someone has posted as that seems excessive to drop 10bhp...

Iirc the USA cars had a different injection system so maybe that aspect has crept into the mix. The resulting 3% power drop from fitting an extra catalyst device seems quite plausible given gains from sports cat upgrades and is consistent with gains typically claimed for precat deletes on the Mk5.

I wondered when petrol engines would be targeted for soot filtration!
I would stick to older cars personally because all of this nonsense is only going to get worse in the next 10-20 years.
I think my next project will be a MK6 R with the second gen (all alloy) TTRS engine. I don't really like the backwards changes on the MK7s.

It'll all be electric in 10 years and and probably all self driving in 20 years.

Nah, it won't happen that quick. The oil companies will make sure of it!

All hybrid in 10 years and all electric within 20 are my predictions for new production. Is the cities / pollution / climate change commitments which are pushing this agenda and OPEC will have little clout. Expect more stealth taxes to make up for the losses in fuel duties.

The current thinking is that the richer countries would pay for the poorer ones to move to clean energy. For example, Miami is built on porous limestone and its current bad flooding will get even worse as sea levels rise. The US has an interest in helping countries too poor to develop clean energy if they want to protect places like Miami.

It's too late to save Miami now :grin: Nature is fighting back and there's nowt we can do about it :smiley: China could see the impact of over population way back in the 70s with it's 'one child policy' but the rest of the world carried on breeding regardless, and now we are paying the price. Nature 1, Humanity 0
Anyway, until we are wiped out by wars or super viruses, electric cars won't have mass appeal until the match fossil fuel cars on price and range.
