hi guys
Just had first MOT done in the relatively short ownership of my GTI, it flew through as I expected but a couple of the tyres are nearing their limit.
What would people recommend I get when buying new tyres? I wont be doing any track driving but plenty of fast A & B road driving. I'm looking for something that's equally as good in the wet and dry, summer & winter, also looking for something with a bit of durability so I can get plenty of life out of them. Not asking much right? haha! Reason I want something to do a bit of everything is my budget simply wont stretch to having summer and winter tyres.
any recommendations will be greatly appreciated!!
cheers!!

I vouch for Michelin Pilot Sport 4’s. Incredible tyres, changes the whole car.
-
I use Bridgestone potenza’s but they seem to be marmite tires :rolleye:
-
I'll add those to the list of potentials, cheers guys! much research needed!

From all the reviews I’ve read on here... the next set of tyres I buy will be Michelin PS4’s

Having searched on the forum the general consensus seems to point towards the Michelins, quick search had them at £104 per corner but found them for £90 after some further digging...not too bad!
-
Like I said Bridgestones are marmite but I really rate them and I am not a Mr slow!
Not tried p4’s so cannot comment but if your looking for decent cheaper tires try here

I've found these to be the best to source tyres from.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4's as well. There are similar performing tyres but as an all round they are great.
-
awesome guys, going to spend some time checking prices and reviews then guess I'll have to part with some cash!!!
-
PS4... brilliant tyre

Another vote for the PS4 :happy2:

Moved from continental to PS4 about 4 years ago.Very similar tyres but Costco usually have the PS4's on offer so i have stuck with them.
-
Btw those of you who have PS4’s.. How long do they tend to last? I just got mine on like a month ago and tread seems to be getting eaten

I use Avon zx7
225/45/17 - 94y xl
about £65 a corner, fantastic all-round weather & last a lot longer

I had Continental SC5s on for about 2.5 years before all 4 corners were down to ~3mm (17k miles mixed driving + 3x short track sessions of 20-30 mins each). Arguably could have hung them out to the legal limit but had started to notice performance in the wet suffering a bit.
Recently put PS4s on and cant say I really notice any difference compared to the CS5s at their best - both are great. Am hoping the Michelins will last a bit longer as Continental tyres have a reputation for wearing quickly.
If buying again, I'd be happy with either.

slapped on the ContiSport 6 when i changed mine recently. Stonking tyres so far.

I used to love the S03, RE720 and RE050A Bridgees :happy2:
I don't know what's happened to Bridgestone lately. They seem to falling behind the big 3 (Goodyear, Mich, Conti) at the moment, but used to be up there with them, if not better.
Are they still the current F1 tyre supplier, or has it flip-flopped back to Michelin/Pirelli again?

I really really rate icebear as a winter tire

Didn’t want to start a new topic so resurrecting an old one to see if anyone has fitted Michelin Pilot Sport 4s as I see they have them now in 18” wheel size albeit slightly wider fitment (235/40 R18).
Camskill have them (https://www.camskill.co.uk/m61b0s322p188047/Michelin_Tyres_Car_Michelin_Pilot_Sport_4S_PS4S_-_235_40_R18_%2895Y%29_XL_%28DT1%29_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_E_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_2_Noise%3A_71dB) but they’re not cheap. I’m not needing to replace my PS4 yet but would be willing to try these come replacement time.

That’s an interesting spot and should give some small gains in traction and turn in on the front with extra width and stiffer sidewall. Small increase in rolling radius, which some might like on the motorway.
-
Just for info on wear on the PS4s, mine got down to 3.5mm on the front after 15k miles after one year, dammit, drove too far :D
