Title: Repair or take the money?
Post by: bobby_fodge on July 23, 2019, 03:36:36 pm
Hi, someone reversed into my golf, damaging the offside front wing and bumper. Her insurance has accepted liability and the assessor came today to look at the damage. The wings have been resprayed before but the colour match isn't 100% and rust is again breaking through on both wings. The rest of the bodywork is really good apart from the wings.

The damaged wing would need replacing as it has a bad crease in it. The bumper bracket has snapped off the bumper where she hit me and the headlight mounting tabs are snapped also.

The assessor offered my cash or the option of getting the wing and bumper sorted through the insurance. I didn't realise you'd be offered money or the repair.

I was thinking of taking the cash and buying some lightweight wings but can only find only ones which cost a grand each. I'm at the start of a weight saving exercise, already bought a Braille battery and a bucket seat.

I could get a couple of pre-sprayed wings from ebay and get the scratched bumper sorted. The colour match still wouldn't be 100% but I could live with that. That would come in under a grand.

What do you reckon?

Is hard to give you a meaningful answer without knowing how much the cash offer was for but the flexibility it gives you could be worthwhile. SRS-Tec make wider GRP wings for @450 a pair.
