Title: ITG group buy ?
Post by: subaru26675 on February 24, 2010, 05:14:04 pm
Dont know if this has been brought up before and im not exactly sure how to set one up, but has anyone thought of doing a GB for the ITG intake for K03/K04 cars ?
Im sure it is something that would generate a fair bit of interest but am not sure how to go about getting discounts set up for bulk orders so if someone was willing to help maybe we could set something up ?

"IF" We could get a 10-15% discount for say 15 units do you think we could generate enough interest ?

how can you forget, basically it went along the lines of, how dare someone ask for a discount on a product of which Andy/ITG has worked so hard on, and took alot of time effort and development to get onto the market.

Anyway  :popcornsoda:

That ITG thread, or forge thread, which is why there never was a group buy when it first came out.

Yea i know, thats the thing when you have a good product you dont have to discount it.
I know a few people who were interested in stocking the ITG but didnt because ITG were offering pretty much Zero discount, it seems they are shooting their self in the foot a bit TBH, IMO if you want one its £350 like it or lump it.

Ah well we will see, im not going to order just now for a saving of £10 which tbh is all i can see happening but i will end up buying one when its time for an intake

^^^ I know the trade discount on the kit is low but it's material cost is high as lots of the parts are custom made just for ITG.

IMHO 10% on the kit would be a good target discount.

Tbh I agree with itg not dropping prices or offering discounts. If its a good product and people believe in the brand then I wouldn't mind paying full price...however if a discount can be arranged I would be interested!
Title: Re: ITG group buy ?
Post by: RedRobin on February 24, 2010, 10:03:45 pm
The relatively low profit margins when development and material costs are factored in is quite normal for products such as the ITG Maxogen and Forge Twintake. Also, a manufacturer cannot be expected to upset its retail distributors by significantly undercutting their prices to the consumer.

but it's material cost is high as lots of the parts are custom made just for ITG.

Material cost will not be high. Markup will be well over the 100% mark to cover the "research and design", which undoubtedly will carry the brunt of the products costs.

I've made custom intake's before (helps having a neighbour as a mechanical/fluid dyanmics engineer) and they arent expensive to make yourself once you have the spec. Just fiddly and extremely time consuming getting to the right spec.

But dont get me wrong, I dont blame ITG for charging a premium. We all know how good their filters are.

I just get the overall impression that the intake market for the MK5 Golf GTi is at the "early adopters" stage. The prices are still inflated imho. I suppose they need a return on their research and design investment.

Does this apply if you were to buy a new car too ? If you really like it you shouldn't ask for a discount ?  I know the monies are poles apart but the principle still the same.

I'd probably be interested, price dependant.

I wonder how many people on car forums would ONLY buy a product if they could get a discount.

To my direct knowledge, ITG have been working on this intake for a very long time and their whole aim has been to produce an intake which delivers real gains in performance. They would have dumped the project when they felt they couldn't achieve results. Then their next consideration is whether they can produce it at a cost which is relatively competitive in its market for what it has to offer.

They have succeeded. If SteveP can get a discount that's very good, but does paying around £35 less really influence which intake you prefer on your car?

Ok then, can we draw up a list of people who would be interested so that Steve can at least have an idea of the numbers when bargaining for a group discount with ITG.
If I can start the ball rolling :-

Coming from the R&D field, I know it's important to get a proper return on investment (amortise the development costs, I think is the phrase...).
Nevertheless, that £35 saved (or whatever) is another seal bought for that bloody Karmann Ghia :P

So I'm interested, pending price/timescale considerations.

bowie there is a big difference between a 20k car and a £300 cai. Imo the biggest difference being competition, cars have masses of competition where as the itg has very little competition that gives the same gains...but I'm in no way against discount! I'd ask too but it wouldn't stop me buyin if they say no :D

You're right. It wouldn't stop me either.  But it seems some people think that you shouldn't even ask for a discount.  You say that the ITG has very little competition but there are at least another three.  Do you agree that the car / intake discount percentages are the same though ?

Hi I am a member on Audi-sport and saw the post regarding the group buy

I purchased the ITG a few weeks a go

Looks like you have beat me to it

I have been talking to Andy at ITG over the last week or so regarding a group buy and have some prices ill dig them out and post them up. I fitted the ITG kit last week and am very impressed with the kit. Would probably be looking at 10% discount on 5 then 15% on 10.

I can't stand that @"~$*%R£ dbilas any more
What's up with the dbilas intake?

Well, it's made out of wrought iron or something, it's so heavy - and it gets very hot, being made out of that same material - and the air filter box is super heavy and I'm worried it'll damage the plastic mounting points on the car - and the bolt that holds the tube to the engine has sheered away twice because of the weight - and the filter is too damn small in terms of surface area - and it makes a damn stupid haWEEEEEEE noise whenever I open the car up a bit. Sounds like a badly-tuned harmonica. The haWEEEE noise is the worst bit.

The APR stage 2 intake looked very nice but I've heard nothing on UK availability for a few months now and I'm tired of waiting. ITG has had universally good comments from everyone who's purchased it. If possible I'd like it with blue hose to match my car but even black hose looks quite smart with the white inserts. Plus I like that's it's attached at two points, on the heatshield and on the engine; I was concerned about heat transfer from the heatshield/tube interface but that doesn't seem to a problem, and whatever the case, it's gotta be better than the setup I've got at the moment.

as long as its a nice (not chavvy / annoying type) induction noise then I'm sure he won't mind.

Surprised he's kept the Dbilas this long really!

we prob need 2 / 3 more as bet will be some drop outs, most GB I have been involved in before at least 1/4 - 1/3 drop out when cheque signing time comes..............

but if we cracked on with the buy and set a drop dead date of say two weeks from Monday, then we will find a couple more join in and a couple leave and we can keep the ten together. Depends on how ITG want to handle the order payment i guess?

For info the ITG intakes can be had here http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m35b927s3496p56963 for about 20quid less than the prices listed on the previous pages so maybe try to get the discount based on these as a starting price? If it works like that that is :rolleye:

I would imagine most people will want to get the order though as soon as possible, hopefully next week.
Stevep is to be talking to Andy at ITG on Monday, so at least he can now now say we have 10 people ready to order.
Im pretty eager to get the order through ASAP as i am sure the rest of the guys on the GB are, so sooner rather than later for me  :happy2:

You will get more induction noise with the ITG though...

as long as its a nice (not chavvy / annoying type) induction noise then I'm sure he won't mind.

Surprised he's kept the Dbilas this long really!

You remember that bloody stupid noise don't you Lee? I don't mind induction noise as long as it's not trying to play a harmonica.

I don't mind whether we do it this week or next week or two weeks hence, whatever the case it'll throw my financial plans into even more disarray, so may as well bite the bullet (so to speak).

Basically it is a MV sport downpipe and 100 cell cat, which according to their group buy, which is in second round (frist set of guys got their dp's in Jan and someone who missed the GB has resurrected it for a 2nd round. The dp is for both the S3 and 2.0 TSFI (same as our ed30's and GTI K03's) so i enguired of MVS if they did a downpipe and cat for the GTI K03, they said yes...
Hi John

Thank you for your enquiry regarding an exhaust upgrade for your Golf 5 TFSi.

I can confirm that we can provide a sports catalytic converter and downpipe upgrade for your car that will mate onto the standard system. This will enable you to keep and sound difference to a minimum and retail a completely showroom standard look and yet still benefit from the performance increase offered by the downpipe upgrade.

The downpipe upgrade costs £550 including vat and is available from stock. Delivery is £10 including vat.

Just for your interest I have attached a copy of our latest press release which gives full details of both our exhaust and software upgrades for your car.

If you do need any more information or would like to order, please just ask.

Best Regards

Mike
MV Sport Sales Team

and given the GB in the audi forum is looking at a 15% discount seems a good deal to me.

According to the first set of buyers, the system is actually a blueflame white labelled for MV sport. The audi GB haven't yet checked that MVS will supply a GTI dp as part of their group buy but don't see why not, if not and enough interest here I will set up a GTI only GB

Its a bit more expensive than i was looking for.

Have you considderd blueflame mate, ive bought the cat back a wee while ago, if interested you could get the cat-DP for roughly £450 without a group buy, its a true 3" system, revo rate it as one of the best for gains, I hear its pretty loud though, ive not fitted mine yet.

Yip i know i was saying that i have the cat back, but i know where you can buy either 100 or 200 cell sports cats / downpipe for About the £450, i bought the BF cat back for £330, bargain isnt it. Im sure the system retails for about £1K  :happy2

Im not sure if i was offered the cat/dp for this price as i had already bought the cat back though ?

I will be changing the intake on my Cupra shortly, and have considered one of these. Reason I am changing is because I fancy an increase in intake noise.

Regarding the comments on the Dbilas above, each to their own, but my car made 337bhp at the wheels 3 days ago using a Dbilas. It is anything but restrictive, and while I agree it is heavy, it is well built, but it is not going to suffer any more of an adverse effect to engine heat than any other intake. In my opinion it is a very good intake, and knowing someone who has had an ITG and a Dbilas on their car, the r/r showed virtually no difference between the two.

Did you have the original one piece dbilas or the two-piece unit that came later? Mine is a two-piece unit, and whilst I've got no issues re restriction (though it does have a smaller surface area on the filter than others) that noise is driving me crazy.
Title: Re: ITG group buy ?
Post by: GTIjames on March 02, 2010, 01:10:15 pm
I had the two piece dblias - kept on working its way loose from the mounting bolts and thats with a full set of vf enging mounts, also mine had some cheap hose connecting the air filter with the downpipe rather than the rubber hose as seen on some of the pics - this split over time which I repaired with tape... not good so finally replaced with the ITG

awesome bit of kit, weighs about half that of the dbilas, performance feels alot better and the noise... addictive to say the least

Title: Re: ITG group buy ?
Post by: djhorace on March 02, 2010, 01:27:01 pm
Mine is the 2 piece unit. The only issue I have had is the connection point to the side of the engine becoming threaded due to engine movement, but that has been solved by a mount underneath fitted to the support beside the battery.

As for the noise, the Dbilas is ideal if you want a good increase without shouting about it. It does make some more noise than the standard intake, but its not at all loud. In addition, the K&N panel filter is easily cleaned/replaced unlike its competitors.

Cracking piece of kit, but I fancy more noise hence why I am considering an ITG.

Really sorry 'bout this, but if this is taking place in the next couple of weeks I'm gonna have to drop out. It was an ill-considered decision on my part to start, but having done some maths unfortunately I really can't do it immediately.

Sorry guys! I'll keep an eye on it and if it takes more than a couple of weeks I'll come back in.

Ok the group buy is now underway, I have spoke to Andy at ITG today and we are on. I am dealing with the group buy, Andy is going to send all the kits to me flat pack for me to box up and distribute. He has confirmed the 15% on retail prices

Postage is going to be £15 to cover bulk shipment to me and postage to yourselvers

So
K04 cars £320 plus £15 = £335 delivered
K03 cars £300 plus £15 = £315 delivered

The order is going to be going on my credit card so you can appreciate I need the money as soon as possible.

I am an active member on Audi-sport.net have a look here http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/member.php?25434-mattandrew On to the payment. My preferred method of payment would be bank transfer as we neither or use will get charged a fee, alternatively Paypal but it would need to be sent as a GIFT or I will get fees on the full amount.

Great work Mathew, my money has already been transferred, can't wait, especially since I broke my airbox cover getting it off at the weekend, bloody thing was totally stuck on, and the advice is, be brutal, I was, result top split and cracked, bloody mess. But the ITG will fix all that and go nicely with my new miltek TBE which is what I was fitting when i broke the cover.

BTW, fitting the TBE was surprisingly easy and makes the car so smooth, just need the ITG and stage 2 map now :-)

Weird :/ I told the bank lady cashier woman to put "cmdrfire - k03" as a reference. Well if it's counter credit from the Natwest in Frimley it's from me :P

As an aside (and I know I mentioned this in my email, but I like to gripe), I parked my car in the car park behind the bank for ten minutes to go in and make the payment - but I didn't pay for the little pay and display ticket.
I came back ten minutes later and my car was clamped  :scared:
£130 to get them to release it!  :surprised: Bloody crooks! They were waiting in the car park too, I think they just wait there all the time... used to be a free car park once upon a time :/
So I get on the group buy to get £60 discount and end up paying twice that to free the car...
 :sad1:

cmdfire the reference has now appeared on my bank statement, before it was a new transaction must of updated over night.

If you pay within so many days sometimes the fine is cheaper???

I have placed the order with ITG this morning, Andy is waiting on some of the silicone hoses for the kits, they should be with him early next week. I will keep you all updated next week with progress. Some of you have given me delivery address and some havn't. If you all could send me them over that would be great I can then get all the labels ready to send out.

I dropped it in straight at the bank so it would show up the same day :) online transfer takes up to three working days sometime.

@Mattandrew, it was an on-the-spot thing, had to pay the fine over the phone before they sent the guy 'round to unclamp the car... they must monitor that car park as he got me right after I left the car and was back two minutes after I called!
I might appeal though as I was only there ten minutes.
Reminds me, I better email you my address!

Yeah we do have some nice roads up here but can be a tad on the cold side at times with the wind whipping in from the north sea
Have you got your engine cover and turbo pipe off yet ?  The pipe off the turbo is a bit of a bitch to get to, one of those daft squeeze together clips.  Getting it off was bad, god only knows how bad it is to get the new pipe on  :scared:  might be easier with a jubilee type clip ?   What is supplied with the ITG kit, is it the same squeeze together type clips ??

Kev.
Title: Re: ITG group buy ?
Post by: jmspear on March 24, 2010, 02:22:53 pm
Hi Kev, No nasty squeeze clips in the kit, its all nice <large> hose clips which you do up / undo with a small socket set. Not taken anything to bits yet (slacking I know, but been working since 7am this morning)  the instructions do warn you that the turbo pipe clip is a ba$%ard - got that to look forward to - but the kit has been taken out lovingly looked at and then put back in the box.

Have ordered my stage2 superchips map tho  (I know its not revo but its only £50 squid). Off for a meet shortly back at 4:30 then THE SPANNERS COME OUT. Oh just put a fresh tank of vpower in and am driving 200 miles 2moro so will get a very good work out!!

Hi Kev,

just got back from the first test drive. But before I review the performance, the fitting. Took me 1 hr 50 mins, but took my time, read instructions and was careful. usual Drama getting engine cover off, especially since mine is now split and araldited together!! The Turbo inlet hose wasn't too bad, I have a pair of slip joint pliers which were fine for gripping the hose clamp and squeezing it open, only problem was dropped them twice and burnt my wrist on the turbo retrieving them from the depths of the engine. Everything esle wnet as per the instructions. i did not have any silicone spray to help lubricate the hoses going onto the metal pipes, the do grip like limpets and lubrciation is vital, so I used WD40 which seemed fine (hope it doesn't kill the Maf). Otherwise everything went smoothly as per instructions. Top tip to rotate the aluminium pipe on the rhs of the engine to do up the bolt. The g60 filter doesn't half cram in behind the ns headlight, not a lot of room in there.

Once the ITG was on, I uploaded my stage 2 BF and went for a play. Weather is lashing with rain here in cotsolds so ideal for max turbo boost nice dense cold air, 10degC and roads empty (midnight for my test drive). The car with the ITG and stage 2 map has sooo much more power and pick up and torque than before, feels v fast, no fuel cut (yet) just lots of fast pick up linear power. The needle fly's round the dial. In normal driving you don't hear the ITG from inside, but when you press the load pedal firmly you get a gentle whoosing and slight whistle. Best way to describe it is to purse your lips gently and gently suck in, this is the sound you hear inside the car (with a faint high whistle added on max air draw). Not instrusive at all. i have a std DV fitted so no air  dumping sound (which is good for me as I like the stock sound). The power is a big difference, I took it easy after I span the front wheels going into 5th at 70 on a slight incline, the roads are very wet but still suprised me with the amount of torque. Anyway time for bed now, will post further impressions 2moro as driving to london and back (200miles) so will get a good feel for it on fast xcountry and motorway driving. But so far, very very pleased. Final mod in a couple of weeks when I will be fitting the HPFP I have bought , I will get before and after dyno's done then, but at the moment spot on mod. (I also have a full miltek TBE on the car)

Thats mine fitted  :happy2:
Took me a lot longer than expected, its a tight fit in that engine bay and a lot of pipes to put together, overall I would say easily 2 hours work for me  :ashamed:
Went for a drive and have to say the car pulls a lot harder from 4K RPM up to the red line and I absolutely love the sound track
Overall very happy with the purchase, a nice addition to an already stunning car  :happy2:

Well done kev  :congrats: satisfying isn't it. Every time I stopped the car i had to pop the bonnet just to have a look, it looks so good, very professional, and really pleased with my work installing it. Had already showed to my mates but 8:00am this am  (how sad is that ).  It looks great, ads to the performance big style, the sound just grows and grows, love the lift off dump valve chatter, and the performance is great. Did 200 miles on it today, cotswold lanes, furious multi vehicle and lorry overtaking on the A40 (all @ legal speeds no more than 60mph ossifer honest), motorway cruising on M40 and town driving in central london and every bit was a joy, great bottom end, will pull effortlessly from 1500 rpm in 5th, mid range overtaking very strong and top end motorway 6th at ahem 70mph  effortless. Even turned the stereo off on the way home, just to hear it sucking and dumping - v sad but very happy - once again many thanks Matt Andrew  :happy2:

Stronly recommend this mod

Just fitted my intake earlier today. Very impressed overall with its construction and fit, very nice and secure, the use of silicone hose allows for flex along with the engine. Only disappointing part were some minor nicks on the pipes and heatshield, but you can't see them when the silicon is attached.
Managed to find my old engine mount studs from somewhere as well (I replaced them when I fitted my EVOMs heatshield with some nice bolts, which were too small for this application). Finished about an hour ago and went for a drive - I love it. The old dbilas harmonica is gone, now lots of whoosh and turbo noises. Slight whistle near the top end, quite subtle though. Also feels like much more power - the old power-disappearing problem seems to have gone. Needs further investigation tomorrow   along with some pics as well.
