Title: Aftermarket Brakes, safe to use?
Post by: kodirl on August 09, 2019, 08:09:41 am

Hi everyone, has anyone any experience of using after market brake calipers? I'm thinking of getting front and rears for my mk5 GTI and getting them powder coated. Would they be similar to OEM parts ?

Brakes are one of the most important things don’t compromise.

A youtuber called THE SAVAGE GARAGE bought some rear brake calipers for his Mini from that company recently and was impressed with the quality. They'll be refurbished original parts I reckon so could be worth a punt for the price, better than buying used 2nd hand I'd say.

Has anyone fitted a Tanami snorkel. Apart from the factory Ford snorkel, the Tanami is the only one that will fit without cutting my flares. Any comments?

I'm not convinced.  Rear brakes are light duty (especially on a Mini!) and Savage Garage haven't had them on there long enough for any problems to surface yet.  The OEM brakes are up to 14 years old now, and still working fine on most cars.  I doubt the same can be said for cheap copies from Ebay in 2033!
