Title: Do I need a new LPFP?

Hello,

I've been having this problem for years now and never resolved it but I get a sort of limp mode if I push the car hard in a high gear, feels like a fuel cut but it's not really the car will maintain it's current speed with the accelerator fully pressed, it will not increase in speed but it does not reduce speed.

I've changed my cam follower many times over the years, the fuel thrust sensor I replaced with 06E906051K, fuel filter I'll do this weekend but I had done it a few years ago before I first encountered these faults below.

I saw this https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,37438.30.html (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,37438.30.html) thread here that makes it sound like it's the LPFP but if there was really no fuel going to the car when I get these cuts at high speed then surely the car wouldn't be able to maintain the speed? It just feel more like a limp mode of sorts. It can last 1-2 minutes and then suddenly car has full power again.

Dv or have you checked for slight leaks in hoses that only show up on boost????

DV I done last week, I check around the day visually on the hoses, nothing stood out

I had a hose that visually looked fine but under boost it had a small hole ........took a lot of tracking down but eventually found the little blighter. New hose and no more problems  :signLOL:


My hose was the one linked to dv (n249)

Did you have the same 2 errors? Because they're low and high fuel pressure related.

Try changing the fuel filter first as they're not part of the service regime.  Some will be well over 10 years old now as a lot of owners don't think to change it themselves. Dealers/indies certainly don't, unless asked to by the customer.

If that doesn't fix it, the in-tank pump or the PWM controller would be next on my list.

In fairness the fuel filter was change about 80k ago(7 years), but I changed it anyway the other day, next long run now I'll see if it anything pops up on my next scan.

For the LFPF I see lots of second hand ones on ebay with 1K0919051CL looking like a new enough common revision that you can find there, other the most common revision I see is 1K0919051M but not sure where does M fall, before or after the CL revision.

Then on aliexpress I see some cheap control modules

Came back after the filter change this week, LFPF next I guess, just happens really around 6th gear from 100km/h to 160km/h when flooring, that can replicate the issue the most frequent.

Do you run your car on 95 or 98/99 octane. If 95 try 99 and see if the problem persists.  :happy2:

Fitted a new pump yesterday, again same issue replicated when in 6th gear going from 100km/h to 160km/h  this evening, fairly hard to replicate it when in the correct gear, it doesn't look like the HPFP right?

Unfortunately you can't really buy 98/99 where I'm from haha.

Limp mode comes in when your fuel pressure is too low. LPFP issues can be solved with a few checks, like reading blocks when the ignition is turned on, but you need a com reader that can read blocks, i paid 30quid for a vag com handheld. Do you still have the last changed cam follower, what sort of wear pattern did you get? What engine code isit?
