Title: Inlet camshaft job
Post by: Dunkdafunk on September 29, 2019, 10:13:28 am
Inlet camshaft needs replacing on bwa engine.

Do I need to take off the cam chain first, or can I lift the cam cover off and top head part avoiding taking the vvt pulley off? Also. Whilst I'm doing this job, what else could I change or do in the process, mileage is 180k. Cheers. Dunk

Yes you can change the inlet cam without removing the adjuster pulley. Once you have removed the cam ladder you can lift the intake cam and move it close to the ex cam and get the chain off.

Thanks FJB.

What do I have to watch out for?

When you put sealant on the cam ladder, use the finest of a bead. Paint mark the both cams and chain before removal, transfer the marks to you new cam and chain if you are replacing it, this way you will not need the timing tool. Best practice to replace the chain and tensioner whilst you are in there.
