Title: 18" Monza debacle
Post by: kpowell911 on October 20, 2019, 03:56:11 pm
Hello, I currently have 17s, but want to switch to some 18" Monzas. I know genuine ones are et51, so Ive already got some 12mm Forge Spacers and a Set of H&R 30mm Springs/RS3 Top Mounts, as I believe this is how they should sit, without going silly.

That said, Im struggling with the wheels...

I need to obtain some, I will then get them refurbed and clad in fresh PS4s after the winter (the 17s have decent winter tyres with 5mm+ so may as well use them), but Im lost regarding the 1 and 2.

I THINK I want Diamond Cut, which is I Believe a Monza 2? However, Im also thinking of just getting a regular set of Monza’s and having them Anthracite. Is there a difference between the two styles, or could I pick up some scuffed up Monza 18s, and have them diamond cut?

Failing this, what offset are ED30 BBS’s?

Lastly, what should I expect to pay? eBay prices seem all over the shop?

Thanks

AFAIK all 18 monza wheels were diamond cut from the factory and 17 weren't. I think technically speaking the 18 on mk5 were actually called Detroit and were called monza on the mk6 even though the style was the same. There are a lot of copies out there which may explain the price differences you see. Genuine VW wheels will have the logo stamped on the back and were made either by BBS or Ronal. I would always ask to see a picture of the rear of the wheels to see the stamps. If they're not then they aren't genuine so don't pay genuine prices.

Pretty sure the Edition 30 wheels are ET51

If going for 18" Monzas, definitely diamond cut.  They look so much better than the 17s.

There's 2 different part numbers for the 18s, I think they're the same though. I have a set and need to get them re-cut.
