Have just bought a MK 5 2005 with 110k miles. Planning on getting a stage 1 rtech remap. Are there any maintenance checks or tunes I should get done first, either for peace of mind or for performance.
Think I need a cam belt and water pump soon so guess that should be done first.
Thank you

Do a search as it's been covered a million times.

Nice previous reply.
I thought forums were somewhere newbies like myself could come for advice.
If you havn't found the info yet try these.
HPFP CAM FOLLOWER 06D109309R check kist dude
DIVERTER VALVE 06F145710G

You might also want to add their intake / injector / sump clean service for peace of mind.how fresh are the plugs?
Precat delete and panel filter will help you with power and response when you remap.

Definitely the oil pickup pipe, last thing you want is to be choking for oil.
The usual maintenance stuff really - PCV, DV, Cam follower, any other leaks (brake booster hoses are common).
A good scan and making sure the engine is in good health is always nice before putting money into tuning and mods

Just reading into this myself, looks like niki recommends a new fuel pump over 100k too.

There can be issues with the seal in the HPFP perishing, which allows petrol to seep into the engine oil. Unfortunately this part is not separately available and needs a new pump at @£200. My car had this issue at 11 years / 25k miles so it is something worth looking out for.

As mentioned above...
Latest revision PCV, DV, spark plugs (iridium preferably), oil pick up pipe, HPFP cam follower, oil and filter, air filter, fuel filter too as it’s probably never been changed.
full diagnostic scan to make sure nothing pops up.
Boost leak check
I’d also look at getting the intake valves decoked as it’s made a huge difference to the ones I’ve done in the past.
