Title: Is this invoice cost reasonable? (Golf MK5 GTI)
Post by: MSPaint on November 07, 2019, 06:40:13 pm
Hi all,

I recently put my car through a garage after they told me i needed a few things sorted during my last MOT:

The invoice total was £650 (minus vat), it has always been expensive taking it there but they have a great reputation for performance cars.

The invoice breakdown was as followed;

Air box rubbers - 15.00
Catch Can hoses 20.00
Cam cover gasket - 26.00
Rear brake discs - 35.00
2X Rear calipers 250.00
Rear pads - 35.00
Labour for this ^ - 255.00

What do you think? Any advice would be MUCH appreciated!

Thanks!  :happy2:

I would say parts prices were ok if that was including vat - are they genuine parts?
Labour costs is subjective, entirely depends where you are located.

Just as an example, mine needed a rear caliper for MOT, couldn’t wait to get rebuild kit so opted to let them sort it.
I’m in Edinburgh, the garage charged £170 including labour - but that was a non OEM part, raw aluminium so needs paint.

I agree, they don't seem to be outrageous parts prices. Whether you genuinely needed all of those things done is another matter :)

I have had to replace one rear caliper already and the other one is on the way out as well. They seem be to be annoyingly prone to that.
