After a lot of investigation, I decided to buy a very good used passenger seat and ask a trimming to use the perfect bolster to repair my tired driver's seat.
The seat is perfect. Seriously, totally back to as-new condition. Will get an image here soon.
So a big shout out to RJ Turner in Sevenoaks whose rate was extremely good in my opinion.
Also, if anyone wants a passenger seat with perfect tartan (but no right hand grey bolster!), let me know.

Here's the seat (assuming I get load an image)

No pic, but sounds great. I need the same thing doing to my ED30 driver's seat. How much did it cost out of interest? Replacement seat parts from VW have to be one of the most expensive parts they sell for the entire car. They are extortionate!
I'm surprised you managed to get one seat s/hand. Most breakers only sell interiors as complete sets.

I got a really good condition passenger seat from ebay and dropped both my seats and the ebay seat off at optimus automotive in Glasgow and he chopped the lot up to make 2 really good seats.

Great work  I'm even more motivated now!
I will need some temporary seats as mine is a daily driver! I doubt any local trimmers will do it on a saturday in one hit?
-
Unlikely, just get a seat out of a scrapper.
-
I had to leave my seats with him for over a month as he was so busy. That was around april this year.Think the prices were something like £250 delivered for the seat and £450 for the retrim work.He had to undo alot of the original stitching and stitch the good pieces back on through the same stitch holes so very time consuming.
Quite expensive but i thought it was worth it as my ed30 is a low miles 1 previous owner car but i bought it off a 71 year old and from new he just slid his weight over the bolster every time instead of “climbing” in and out.Always bothered me.

It's the sort of job that makes such a difference you wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
My driver seat repair was a Saturday morning's work so your daily driver could just be done in stages. Probably something like £150 per morning session, one seat at a time. Just a guess...
Any takers for the remaining passenger seat? The tartan is perfect and there is plenty of grey left over too from the unused bolster, headrest and bolster. That would be the bulk of £350 from VW!!

Reading this I should really look at getting the drivers cloth bolster re-trimmed on mine. Does anyone know if a seat from any MK5 model will fit straight into a GTI? This would allow me to drop my seat off at the trimmers and still have use of the car.
Cheers.

Having another go at a picture after the trimmer worked his magic!

I can't think why they wouldn't.

@Gibbo1998 (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=52486) nice repair and looks like a quality job.
@Octoparrot (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=14844) thanks. Will probably take a punt on a scrapyard MK5 seat or a local one on eBay and see how I go.

I was thinking of buying a couple of fronts from a breaker, and then using the tartan to retrim the centres of my seats - to make them Edition 30 look wingbacks.
Would you sell me your tartan from the cover?
Thanks
Ollie
