Title: Service Parts
Post by: jeru31 on December 05, 2019, 02:49:39 pm
Hey up fellow GTI advocates. I'm looking to get my car serviced but will buy all the parts myself and take to a mechanic, I just need advice on what spark plugs to get? and what oil should is use? I have a GTI Pirelli 2008, mileage is 87,000 miles. I looking to buy all the bits from Euro Car Parts unless you recommend something else? thanks all

Most recommended Oil = Castrol Edge Longlife 5W30

Hi mate, not sure on your budget but i'd personally be using all genuine parts from TPS for that pirelli

As Morrisey said, go with the Castrol Edge Oil though.

Answered in the previous post.

I use Mann filters from EuroCarParts for mine as they are OE supplier. If you buy genuine you'll just get Mann filters at a higher price.

The MK5 GTI can take either standard 502.00/505.00 spec oil (QG0) or Longlife 504.00/507.00 spec oil (QG0/QG1), I've been running 502.00/505.00 spec oil for my GTI's recent annual services (every 8000 miles) and it hasn't missed a beat.

I personally use Mobil 1 FS 0W-40, I find that I don't need to top up often due to the thicker viscocity compared to the 5W-30 and it starts up in the cold much smoother from its winter properties (0W).

How deep do you want the service to go?

Mobil 1 0W40
NGK BKR7IEX plugs
Genuine red top coils
Genuine oil filter
Genuine fuel filter
Genuine pollen filter
PiperCross dry foam panel filter or genuine replacement
Dealer brake fluid flush
Manual gearbox oil / DSG oil
Grease all hinges (especially the bonnet latch)
Replace brake pads if approaching 5mm
Brake fluid flush if not done in the last 2 years
Cambelt?  Every 4 years or or 60K miles, which ever comes first.
G13 coolant refresh.  Should be done every 4 years ideally.
MAF sensor, clean or replace if no history
Remove cam sensor and deswarf/replace
Walnut blast
Injector refurbish/replace
Check/replace/upgrade console bushes
Check/replace HPFP cam follower
Check/replace DV
Check/replace PCV
Oil pump pick up flush/replace
Cam chain and tensioner check
And on and on the list goes!
