Hi guys. Bought a very nice nice and standard 57 Mk5 GTi a month or so ago. Issues are after a drive the needle doesn't really go over 70. My daily run is 6 miles so not massive.
Looking around do these have two stats, main and inline? It's a manual btw.
Can't say I notice much drop in mpg and it goes really well. I'm hoping it's the easier stat but either way I will be sorting it soon..
Thanks.

Sounds like it could well be the main stat at fault, a very common problem. As yours is a manual it might not have the inline stat as mine didn't.

Ok thanks. With working in the car trade I can use our local suppliers or genuine only? Rang TPS earlier and it was £70 ISH.

I'd definitely recommend going with genuine as it's a bit of a pig to change whether you're doing it yourself or paying someone else to do it so you only want to do it once, I'd also recommend replacing the temp sensor around that area as it's much easier to do whilst you're in there.

Nice one thanks. Was hoping it was something else lol. Does point to this being the culprit

is your heater o.k

Yeah. Not red hot but then I don't do many miles.
Would say it could be hotter tbf

Probably t/stat then

New stat fitted yesterday and now gets to 90 within 3-4 miles. Sorted.

Our car is a BWA engined manual, I was a bit miffed when I had the main 'stat changed only to learn that it had an inline one as well.
The not getting up to temp' started again a bit later and had to have the inline one changed as well. I wish they had said about it having two as it could have been changed when it was drained down.
Spot on after the second one was changed, gets up to 90 in less than 3 miles.
