Finally the weather was good enough for me to fit my sharkfin combo :happy2:
FM/AM works perfectly and I also ran the GPS cable so I don't have to use the 3rd party one above the RNS510 although I don't see any more satellites
Whoever built my car managed to wrap the FM cable around the airbag cylinders making the removal of the old cable harder than it should have been

My version from ebay de also came fitted with the telephone and aux heater remote control, which I left unconnected

nice one, i only wished they had out all the functions in a sharkfin without the whip

I love my whip :innocent:

I feel that i need one of these shark fin combi's because i'm getting poor reception with the shark fin one i have at the moment.
How much would these cost at the dealers?
also how easy to fit?
-
German ebay is best for this sort of thing, picked mine up for £50 :happy2:

Do you know much are the dealers asking for this item? And did you fit it yourself?
-
I wonder if the MY10 Polo shorter aerial would scerw onto that sharkfin base. (It screws onto the regular base no problems at all.)

Probably because the shark fin is NOT used for radio reception! Even if you replace the standard aerial for a shark fin it will still not be used for radio reception and in the hidden menu's of the higher head units it will say antenna not connected.
Cars fitted with a shark fin from factory use the rear screen for radio and shark fin for GPS :happy2:

The cable was wrapped around the airbag cylinder on my car too

So getting a shark fin combi as in the pic above will not improve radio reception?
-
pic above is shark fin combo NOT shark fin, so picture above will maintain same radion reception as whip only :happy2:

I have got a shark fin already, So what is the whip for in the pic?
Better radio reception or better mobile phone/GPS reception?

the whip replaces one of the antennas in your rear window to cut production cost

the whip replaces one of the antennas in your rear window to cut production cost
The whip actually replaced the one in the rear window as the rear window alone is not great reception. The initial rear winodw only was the cost cutting exercise... then VW realised it was not quite good enough and compromised on the shark-fin/whip combo. All the connections are still on the rear window if you want to use them. All you need is another amp like the one fitted to most mk5's windows anytway (all but the most basic use one on the rear window, the shark-fin equiped cars used 2)

Do you have a partlist and DIY for using the rear window instead of the whip?? Or perhaps a link?? :happy2: :drinking:

I'd be very interested in this too.

There's details of this in my build thread http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,8746.60.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,8746.60.html)
There are a few part numbers listed as follows:
aerial amplifier right: 1K6 035 577 H
aerial amplifier left : 1K6 035 577 R
aerial amplifier right: 1K6 035 577 K (for models with diversity)
aerial amplifier left : 1K6 035 577 S (for models with diversity)
aerial amplifier right: 1K6 035 577 T (for models with nav)
aerial amplifier left: 1K6 035 577 AA (for models with nav)
You'll have to figure out which is appropriate for your car :happy2:
