Post by: Truckie on March 02, 2010, 09:41:46 pm
As thread title really....What wax do you guys use and why? lol.
Ill start, on my edition 30 now is 2 coats of autosmart smart wax on top of poorboys glaze.
Previously: Jetseal 109, autoglym hd, angelwax, dodo juice diamond white.

ps, wax doesnt usually last long for me as my car is washed almost every day due to the road to work being manky!  :sad1:

Currently using zaino polish and lusso oro Wax, almost coming to the end of the Oro and think im going to give either SW or Dodo a try next. The Oro is very durable in my opinion, just fancy a change!!

Usually use AG Super Resin polish followed by AG Extra Gloss Protection (amazing stuff)...

Since run out of Extra Gloss so now use AG Hd wax which is also excellent!!!

Yip thats what i use too carl, for the bikini line, although it usually takes more than that

Colinite marque de elegance, easy on, easy off, lasts ages, offers great protection and looks good. Probably not the best looking for blacks but im all about the protection.

Hutoglym HD for me, really easy to apply and still beading after almost 6 months

First "hard" wax I have used and am really impressed, beats Meguiars NXT hands down although I guess its not fair to compare them considering the price difference.

I've been using Dodo Juice Supernatural. Looks great and lasts quite well. I've got a pot of Swissvax Best of Show to try next.

Depends what you're looking for. My car is garaged and little used but if it stood out and was a daily driver then I would probably stick with Colinite 845 or 476 as it's so durable.

I switch between Swissvax Zuffenhausen and Pinnacle Souveran, really like the results they give and they are easy to work with, which suits because i'm lazy lol   :happy2:

@Stealthwolf, I have been used the oynx on my Red Clio Trophy and even my Silver RRS. Glacier has been used on the parents white audi. Gives fantastic results.

Will wait and see what suits my new purchase best.

at 12 quid for a truck load of the stuff its a bargain and gives results to compete against some high end waxes, durability is up there aswell

Jay, I've been thinking about treating myself to some BOS ready for the summer, should it give a noticeable improvement in looks/durability over my current fave zuffenhausen?  :happy2:

I'm using supernatural at the moment. Sits right in the middle at the moment. Lovely finish and pretty durable. For winter use I used finishkare 1000 and for the ultimate finish (I've tried a lot of waxes)  pinnacle sovereign is a joy to use. Soft as butter, smells amazing and for ultimate shine I've not found better!

For all of you out there that want a nice finish without the effort of claying, machine polishing, glazes and waxes, meguires nxt tech wax 2 is a fantastic all in one product. Better finish that autoglym srp and has none of the nasty dusting!
Title: Re: Whats your wax?
Post by: craigy123 on March 13, 2010, 01:55:22 pm
But really at the end of the day, what's the point in applying a polish or wax over the top of bonded contaminants?
Title: Re: Whats your wax?
Post by: winrya on March 13, 2010, 02:27:15 pm
All in one products generally have cleaners, fillers, glazes and a sealent in them so they do alot of work to improve a paint finish.  Granted, claying and machine polishing is the only way to get a genuinely swirl free finish but I've seen some awful finishes tranformed by just using megs tech wax!  Plus, ingnorance is bliss, once upon a time, a sponge, chamois and some cheap turtle wax was good enough for my eyes. Car ownership was so much easier and cheaper back then;)
Title: Re: Whats your wax?
Post by: craigy123 on March 13, 2010, 03:39:02 pm
It was definately cheaper!! Haha, by a long shot!!

On a slight tangent....Has anyone found any issues with multiple layers of dodo juice diamond white? (3-4 layers) On my candy white edition 30 it seems to leave wierd dots and attract a lot of dirt and dust, i mean a lot! The dots are hard to describe, very similar to what happens when you slap loads of tyre shine on at a show then drive home and have it spattered all up the sides! The crucial difference being...i have no tyre shine on my car!  :scared: These marks are also in places like the rear quarter, behing the rear window, not usuallya place affected by tyre sling.  :sad1:  The dust is worst on the roof and bonnet.
Any help much appreciated  :popcornsoda:
Title: Re: Whats your wax?
Post by: JPC on March 15, 2010, 09:07:41 pm
Never used White diamond but I'm pretty confident in saying there is little to no point in layering waxes to that degree. Layering like you mention looses it's effectiveness after the second coat. If you have two good coats, you will struggle to beat that.

Post by: Truckie on March 15, 2010, 09:22:11 pm
Thanks mate, coulda pm'd me and save the embaressment  :signLOL:
Its mainly down to boredom that i ended up putting so many on, i couldnt find anything else to do to it  :sad1:
I waxed the wheels, i waxed the door shuts, i waxed the under side of the front and rear bumper, i waxed the underside of the bonnet, i waxed...you get the picture? Im now just gonna wait till next month and buy a new wax and probably begin all over again! Also, most of the wax will now be off my car thanks to vw washing at its service today!

If you apply too many layers you may get a yellowing on the paintwork.

Poorboys Back Hole Glaze
then Poorboys Nattys Paste Wax Blue.
For the wheels I use Poorboys Wheel Sealant although I've been told its the exact same stuff as the Nattys wax blue but a different colouring agent!!

Think I'll try Collinite 476 next.

FK1000 for the alloys
Megs 16, Collinite 476 or Victoria's Concours for the bodywork.
