In the same boat as you mate just hit 21k and its slipping in 4th and 5th  :sad1:  I've been qouted £850 to supply and fit an uprated Sachs  and £1100 if the flywheel as gubbed but when I told my local tuner up here in Scotland that its only started and I've switched my map of he said I should get away with out the flywheel needing changed fingers crossed  :scared:

join the club mate mines just started to slip in fourth very small amount but it is there got a quote from amd in essex sachs uprated one 1500 quid inclusive with a flywheel i asked if i needed to change the flywheel as it has only just started to slip and was told to replace to be certain as if it did sh*t itself at a later date it would bugger up the new clutch and then i would be back to square one which i guess is a fair point

Hi guys,
go with the Sachs uprated clutch + SMF. It is expensive, but you will not regret it. A friend of mine is running +370 HP with excellent results.

If you want the cheaper (but good) alternative, you can go for South Bend with cryo treatment. It's also derived from Sachs parts, but improved and well-tested. Pedal feel is very close to stock in stage 3 SMF kit (tested on friend's 2.0TFSI and my MK4 1.9 TDI).

Yeah, sorry, forgot about Helix - heard they're good, never got to drive one though.

So, price with flywheel included (from high to low) would be:
Uprated Sachs - 1500 GBP
Helix -  GILLM, help with the price :)
South Bend - 1000 GPB

PS: I'm talking about stage 3/4 with ~450 ft lbs.

well, i'm now official a member of the clutch slip club, 4th, 5th and 6th. It has lasted as a school car for 130.000km and K04 upgrade for 22.000km so i can't complain, might as well fit a LSD at the same time, but i plan to fit a new DMF. any ideas as to why i should use a smf instead?? It has to be as drivable as the standard thing.   :happy2:

nothing to go wrong with a 1 piece flywheel , the rubber on duel mass tends to break up

SMF is better peftormance wise, but noisier.
You will hear a chatter at idle and (sometimes) on downshifting but it's worth it every second!

Also, in the log run, DMF tends to break quicker.

smf will rev quicker due to less weight

Not a lot of good if you can't get it in gear. (Sachs SMF) Think I would look at the South Bend, they seem to have good reports on the US sites.
