The MKV GTI has a 55 litre tank (app. 12.7 gallons ) and if you drive steadily you'll get around 35-38mpg. With mixed driving you are looking at around 350miles per tank.

Check the air conditioning works correctly. I know myself and a few others have experienced faulty compressors which are costly to fix if the car is outside of it's warranty.

around 350miles per tank.

I'd say I'm probably nearer 275, but I'm cold starts and short journeys.

Too impatient on motorways to be economical, either...

we regularly get at least 350 on our std GTI. Or to put it another way, we can get from Cheltenham to Cumbernauld / Stirling on a tank of fuel, crappy 95ron and do regularly as we drive every couple of months from Cheltenham to Aberdeen, and this is not hanging around either cruising at ~ 85 (unless you were a blue uniform in which case we religiously stick to 70mph ;-)) and usually in stop start at Brum and Manchester on M5 / M6.

Hope the real world experience helps :-)

Oh yes problems, our air con went just outside warranty (actually siezed on way to aberdeen and took out all the drive belts as well and the debri blocked the condensor etc, so not a cheap repair ~ 400 / 500 quid at specialist including labour and parts - new pump, condensor, regas etc.

Only other problem we have had is battery died just suddenly at 4 yrs, but no real drama. Otherwise we are coming up to 5 yrs and 88k miles and it goes like a solid well built golf should do!

Oh rear caliper screw in cyclinders seized which made changing the pads a bit of a drama (you need to wind the pistons in) but a couple of hours of effort and skinned knuckles sorted this problem.

Buying a GTi... your not going to drive it economically... otherwise you wouldn't be buying a GTi...

My guess is 28-32 mpg you'll get :happy2:
