Title: Traction Control Light
Post by: TheBALDpuma on February 27, 2020, 04:26:28 pm
When you turn yours off does your light stay on, or does it flash?

On my ED30, the light stays on, but it still flickers when a front wheel slips.  I can still feel the ECU cutting power regardless, so it's never fully off.  The level of ignition retard when the unloaded wheel slips is excessive imo.  I think these cars would benefit enormously from a wavetrac or Quaife diff.

Also bear in mind that ESP (Electronic Stability Program) is separate to TC cannot be turned off at all.   But that's not a bad thing.  It saved my arse a couple of winters ago!

TC/EDL (Electronic Diff Lock) is supposed to work up to about 40mph on the MK5, iirc, but it's one of the most ineffective traction systems I've ever experienced!!

The MK6's XDS ABS unit bolts in and works up to 60mph, and is a lot more effective......if you're looking for ways to improve traction.

Interesting.  The reason I ask is because mine flashes when you hit the esp button, which my other cars never did.

Maybe it's highlighting a fault in the system. Mine doesn't flash.

Yeah that's what I thought the flashing might mean. But it works just fine and doesn't flash when you leave the button alone. Odd one.

My 2009 Pirelli flashes when you press the button. Always had from new. It isn't a fault, maybe just different behaviour between model years.

Ah right okay.  Well mine is a 58 Pirelli Edition so that could make sense

That would add up. But is that your car in the YT video? I thought all Pirellis had the full-size screen in the cluster? Or maybe that was only with Nav.

Yeah that's my car.  No nav, and no full size cluster screen.  It's definitey a Pirelli though! was pretty low spec, standard wheel, no cruise, no nav etc.  Infact I don't think the original owner ticked a single option.  All I missed was cruise and nav though so I had cruise put in and I installed a car play stereo.  Sorted!
