Title: ECON button on climate control

Guys what does the econ button do on the climate control? I have a weird whistling sound coming thru the vents but when I press the econ button it stops? Checked blower motor today and all ok?
Any ideas?

Econ illuminated = AC Off

Thanks so I assume then the noise is related to AC system it's like a hissing sound thru the vents inside?
Any ideas
