Hello all
Looking for a bit of advice on changing boot lid (current one has bad rust around badge) over and switching to mk6 badge. Never taken a boot lid off before so got a few questions.
Is it as simple as taking the old one off and reconnecting everything to the new one, or have I got to take all the electrics off the current and put on the new?
I'll be deleting the rear wiper and putting my current gti spoiler on the new boot as the new spoiler has a crack.
Can I switch the spoilers round, fit mk6 badge to the new boot in advance if actually changing the whole lid to make the whole switch easier?
Apologies if some/all of this is dumb questions but if you don't ask...
Thanks in advance

I replaced my hatch the first couple of month of ownership - afraid I can't help with the Mk6 lock
Depends how you receive the replacement hatch - if they chopped the loom you need to remove your own, the ideal is for the loom to be removed with the hatch - takes a bit more effort to remove but saves you time on the install.
once you have disconnected the loom, dont let the hatch close...dont ask how I know!
The other bit of advice I can offer is try to get the hinges too, the spline bolts visible when you open the hatch can be difficult to remove, only a nut on each hinge under the headlining.
The Gti spoiler is notoriously hard to remove, there is 2 pieces to it - the outer painted part and inner mount that contains the brake light the outer fixes onto.
Many people have broken their painted section attempting to remove it, the inner section does not come off in one piece unless you are very talented body work type - I would take this to a body shop to swap them over.
My inner part of the spoiler broke, outer was fine. My replacement hatch was off a Tdi, no spoiler and I am enjoying the clean lines.

Cheers for the reply
Attached pictures of how it came, looks like all wiring is in with the lid.
I'm going to have a look at my hinges today to see if I can get at them.
Think it'll be a bit of learning on the job, was hoping it'd be an easy switch but maybe not haha (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200317/ce64b31c674e1f20497351bc56db4666.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200317/f75ca603b34c09278dd144d81a692a6f.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200317/b0f56a097a19bc9e12a9c9020230ad39.jpg)

I've changed boot badge over with the lid off, can't hurt

When I changed mine I had to swap everything over from the original and use the original loom, as the loom on the new hatch was different and had the dual aerial module as in your picture that mine didn't have.

Ok - you’ve got the loom but not the hinges - make sure you have the correct tool for the hinge bolts.

What type of tool is it?
I thought it was just a spanner job

Ha funnily enough, I've got the two fakra aerial points, but lost a connector off the new boot to go on

When I replaced mine (my replacement boot lid was a 2007 fitting to a 2006) it didn't have the dual aerial wiring loom (mostly the yellow wiring in the pics) and my mate said "nah, don't bother changing all that over, they've obviously improved things so you don't need all that extra crap" so I didn't bother and boy do I regret it every day! The radio works fine 80% of the time, but can get very poor reception very quickly and forget about it when the rear window heater is on!
Take you time and swap all the wiring from the original if it's at all different!
Good luck

All the same from what I can see, minus the 1 aerial connection I've lost somewhere.
Plenty of time at the minute too, especially with no able second pair of hands to mount the boot lid on anyway
Cheers

You need to work out how far the hatch needs to move.
Then slacken the bolts and wedge the hatch the distance up, tighten the bolts
-
Isn't that as simple as winding the 2x rubber stoppers on the boot lid in slightly?

Switched spoilers over today as old one was better condition
Kept reading it was likely to snap etc.
Ive done two with a heat gun and trim tools so it's definitely doable and pretty easy(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200403/acaf864165071ac4f63b768af6183c03.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200403/a4b90bf351a64b1cb9462b41e9715333.jpg)
