Same thing happened on my Porsche. Coil packs replaced under warranty.
Problem solved.
-
Where are the coil packs? :popcornsoda:
-
They cover your spark plugs.
You need to take the engine cover off.
Think they are about £40 each. Hoprlefully someone will give you a part number and price.
-
Sounds coil pack ish. I've had three replaced under warranty in the past.
-
Are these coil packs something that should be replaced after a certain number of miles?
-
Still gor warranty so will call vw. Can i use any dealer or do i have to go back to dealer i bought it from? Will it cause any damage driving it?

Any dealers will do, i wouldnt go mad driving it, but you should be ok to get to the garage, in extreme cases the coil packs have caught fire though

Coil Pack part no. is (well for Skoda Octavia vRS which has same engine) 07K 905 715 F
About £30ish each
If they cover them under warranty then dealer can do it. If not it's a 2 min job to replace yourself. Like this
Remove the Engine Cover - Just pull upwards gently but firmly DONT YANK and it will pop off the 4 Lugs that hold it in place. Also if you have an Aftermarket intake and heat shield remove those aswell. Your Engine will look something like this.

Next remove the 2 Screws that hold the Coil Pack Loom in place. Don't Panic if you don't have them they are not vital

Next Disconnect the Coil Pack loom by pushing the tab down and gently pushing back to the rear of the engine. Do the same for all 4 Connectors.

Next remove coil packs. Just lift up again don't yank and i stored them in the order they came out so that they went back to the same cylinder.

Then just the reverse to put a new one in and put back together
Simples

all good advice, but I would also suggest VCDS to confirm the misfires are limited to one cylinder.
common test is to swap the 'potential' problem pack to another cylinder and see if the problem jumps to that cylinder...

Mmmm... nice DIY.
Sure my coil packs are ok, but just about everything else that would/could cause a mis-fire has had to be replaced. They're on my hit-list next.

I had similar symptons the day after I bought my GTI. In the end it was both a coildpack AND spark plug that were dead. Both replaced and the car drove fine.
Recently though, I had some stuttering and power loss which then developed into a pssssshhhh sound and warning light. This was a boost leak caused by a failed dv. Replaced the dv and the engine is now better than it has ever been :happy2:
