Can anyone offer some help please?
Just tried my stock 05 GTI and it won’t start. Seems to be fine turning on as in dash lights come on and radio/lights work.
When I then turn the key a fast clicking sound occurs and pretty much all the dash lights flicker.
Any ideas please? Battery is only about a year old and recently had a new starter motor fitted.

Sounds like there isnt enough voltage to start it...

Any suggestions to that issue Rich?
Thanks for your reply though - of course it’s DSG and can’t be towed

Yeah... jump leads and another car

Classic dead battery symptoms.

Thanks guys. Any top recommendations on batteries to get?
I suppose my local dealer here in NI is presently closed. Hal frauds?

Your battery might be ok.... just needs jump starting.
If it turns out the battery is goosed then an E44 Varta is a good one to go for.

Strange your battery is done after only 1 year. Have it checked and have you still the receipt?
If you need one in a hurry Europarts should be open tomorrow in Belfast.
Check around for a discount code and click & collect.

Battery dead within a year - It depends how the car is being driven - very short journeys day in day out will kill the battery - quality of battery is also a factor

Maybe something is running the battery down get it charged disconnect the earth put a meter or a test lamp between the two there should be no voltage or the light shouldn't light if either happens you have a short mine was the bolted terminals under the fuse box cleaned with a toothbrush and some wd40 sorted
