In retrofitting my RNS-510 a few months back, like the tit I am, I scratched the climate control fascia panel quite noticeably which was pretty upsetting.
Being bit of a perfectionist (where its possible), I replaced this (£130 from the bay) with one from an R32.
Perhaps even worse, at the weekend I scratched the replacement while fitting my MDI USB arm rest interface DESPITE having a tea towel to protect it, knowing it would be in the line of fire when facking around with the cables at the back of the RNS :fighting: :sad1:
Anyhow, I'm over its appearance as it's not *too* bad on the currently fitted one, but bad enough to pursue a repair!
Is there anything I can do with the original fascia (pictured), i.e. is the OEM paint or a scuff kit available?
Where it's all bobbled is where I made a shocking job at touching it up :signLOL: Bit of a fail all round...

If anyone's willing to have a crack at getting it looking like new, I'd be happy to sort them out with a gesture payment for their time :drinking:
Thanks.

Keep an eye on eBay, i saw one go really cheap not so long ago

...For a replacement fascia?
This is the second one, 182! :signLOL:
It's only a recovery job I'm interested in now. £130 a time isn't fun.

Sorry to hear this dewd, I did the same to mine... I`ve been trying for the past two weeks to find a replacement on ebay but would prefer to get the original one painted or re-finished...
I`ll keep my eyes and ears out for you.

you could try 1 of those smart repair firms mate, just call a few and ask for a quote. they should be able to make it look a lot better for less than 130 quid :happy2:

Thanks Craig. Indeed, I'll end up with a new one everytime I have to adjust something on the unit at this rate. I'm not spending another £130 odd for my incompetence

Yeah I've noted down a few Brett, cheers
I've no idea how much it'd be? As you say, hopefully less than £130! :scared:

If you can find one, you could try the Halfords dash repair kit http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_201783_langId_-1_categoryId_165492 (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_201783_langId_-1_categoryId_165492).
I've got one but not had chance to use it yet, but it does look very good and comes with a loads of stuff - inc filler, clay to recreate the dash texture, paint, brushes etc.
Got to be worth a punt for a fiver?
Steve

mine was scratched when i bought the car,i've just paid £30 for one off a bloke who was breaking an r32 on ebay

Any one tried to retro fit one of these! if so whats involved!? :happy2:
-
How about sanding it down again and trying to apply some piano black or carbon fibre vinyl wrap around it. Cut out holes for the heated seat knobs and the climate control temperature displays. Would look really nice if done correctly.

As in just the climate control fascia itself Monke?
...If that's what you meant, then yeah, straight forward. Attack it as if you were taking your RNS/RCD out so lift the top fascia out, it's three parts more or less with about 7 torx screws, then once you've taken off the climate surrounds you'll see there's 4 more torx screws holding it in, with two electrical connectors that just pop off too (for the heated seats and climate temperature display I think).

:signLOL: :sad1: there's the killer bit for me

i mean, i have got a manual twisty heater controls at the moment, is it just a straight swap for the digital ones, or is there some vag com work involved
-
There's a dash repair guy i have used in Edinburgh area. The repair was brilliant and all for £55. I'm sure that would be less.

Na, I don't think that'll work mate as they use different connectors (that I know of?) and the twist function + electronics are completely different.

I've been quoted £58.50 by a guy locally to do the work and get it looking good again.
Based on what you're saying Murray, that's an okay quote I've got? What did you have done to yours?

Cheers, but as said, due to the fact I've got two panels now (so one spare...) I want to get one in tiptop nick which I can do for around £55 itself. I want to see what kind of quality they can do on it anyway so looking it'll be an interesting experiment. There's no point me buying another as 3 panels is unnecessary
I'll post before and after piccies when I get it done which won't be for a few months yet though :happy2:
