Title: Brake Noise
Post by: rubdub on May 04, 2020, 04:47:01 pm
Hey guys,

So for the past while I've had an issue with my rear NS brake. If I'm travelling around 70kmh there's this consistent dun-dun-dun-dun noise and doesn't seem to change pitch even if I brake a bit. There's also times when I've let the handbrake off to reverse out of the drive and the brake is bound to the caliper, and takes a bit of gas to release.

I've been reading a few previous posts on the forum and I can see that this is a common problem with the MKV brake set up.

My question is, is there any way to determine if the caliper is the issue or if it's a bent slide pin without taking the whole thing off?

Thanks!

The rear caliper comes off easy with only 2 bolts holding it on. The slide pins can then be pulled out to inspect.  Providing your discs and pads are all in good shape, then It sounds like a binding caliper. Which means you’ll either have to buy a caliper rebuild kit or replace the caliper.
