Hi guys, more frustration at the hands of dealers...I am about due my second service as i posted about yesterday, i have been given a crazy price by my chosen vw dealer, im prepared to pay the extra for this because there service is second to none.
My problem is what is supposed to be done at the second service, time and distance 20,000miles.
2007/57 edition 30 DSG.
My closest dealer has said that all that is due "on their system" is an oil and filter, possibly a pollen.
The more expensive dealer (not sure im allowed to name and shame lol) Has said that it will get oil and pollen filter and also an EVC.
My car is also due a brake fluid change @ £52.99  this is according to the sticker in my windscreen. Neither dealer says this is req'd? even though the sticker was attached by the dealer when it was last serviced!
When will my DSG oil be changed? Should i get this done now?
Why can the dealers not just give a straight answer? :sad1:

Not sure if you know but the EVC is the Express Visual Check ... which is absolutely free at any VW dealer and is what the name suggests.
2nd serivce on T&D is basically an oil change and a quick look see. Its not till you hit 4 years that 'major' stuff is done like spark plugs, possibly air filter etc.
Brake fluid used to be 2 years regardless. But from a certain MY the first change became due at 3 years and then 2 years thereafter. Maybe your car comes under this?

I was offered brake fluid change at two years when I booked it in (over the phone) but when I went in person, the guy said I didn't need it yet.
-
DSG is 40,000 miles or 4 years so you don't need to worry about that one. As for brake fluid it suppose to be 2 years, surprised as stealers don't usually like to miss out on making money.

Name the garage :happy2:

Dealers in question are Camerons VW and Specialist cars. IK have been told that some Seat dealers do a lot better pricing, i certainly remember my FR being miles cheaper than my golf to service, but not sure about taking it there....i also have a couple of warranty issues... :sad1: What to do???!!! lol
£240 or £177? Better service no question at the dearer end i think. I did ask but they wont price match.

Totally up to yourself mate but i have absolutely no problems with rutherfords cant reccomend them enough.
After being serviced there mines has been in to VW for warrenty work with no problems or questions asked.

i'd go to camerons personally Craig, just because i know who will be working on the car. He's the only person i let touch my car and will be in the future too

I got brake fluid changed at 35k and 3.5 years for £35 + VAT.
You mention the SEAT garage nearby, have you tried a Skoda dealer (don't laugh), or even an Audi dealer in your area - was it Perth? Audi Braehead are w@nkers, but several A3 owners I know drive to Perth or Stirling for the price/servce...
Failing that, have you tried to find an independant garage, for the 'other' work? I.e. I get a franchised dealer to service my car, but brake fluid, coolant or other little chores I get aforementioned Indy to do it all at half the price VW want.

If your vehicle is set to longlife, you car is due oil and pollen. The pollen filter is due every 2 years or 20,000 miles, which ever comes first. Also with regards to to the BFC, its not mandatory and is due at 3 years on 08 plate chassis and then 2 years there after. Fuel is due at 40,000 miles or 4 years, air is due at 60,000 or 6 years. Plugs i belive are due at 6 years or 60,000 but in some cases can be 40,000 miles. DSG is due at 40,000 miles regardless of age.

Craigy 123, Camerons is my preferred choice but they are :booty: for the price! £240, excluding a break fluid change :sad1:
I would much rather have stuarty working on my car but at that money its tough to decide. even more so if it is just an oil and pollen filter change! :popcornsoda:

£240 for oil and filter change really does take the piss. :fighting:

Oil and filer change is the following 0.5 hours labour, oil, oil filter, screen wash, maintainance spreay sump bung washer ring.
£240 is far too much for that, unless the labour rate is stupidly high. The labour rate where i work is £75 + vat. They should offer a price match service, if you call around then you should get a better deal.
