Title: No power to fuse 42
Post by: Mk5since2008 on May 18, 2020, 06:13:59 pm
Hi all,

This is my first post and thanks for allowing me to join the club. I have been reading for the last 10 years but haven't posted.

I have owned and driven my car from 2008 (mk5 GTI. RHD)
I am from Singapore. You can see my car photos from Instagram @Mk5since2008 (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=72351)

I have an issue with my fuse 41 and 42. It just suddenly has no power supply to it.
So basically the 2 x 12v sockets are dead and the wiper jets don't work. Wipers still work only no spray.

I have tested the relays by swapping the 2x relay 460 and the problem still stays.
Fuse F52 from the engine bay is also fine.

I have tried connection power from another fuse location and it actually made the sockets work when I tap to fuse 42. And the wiper spray works when I do it to fuse 41

So it's not a hardware problem.

I have read in this forum that a few members have had the same or similar issues but they never posted a solution.

Has anyone come across this problem and can share what went wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Tap power from another location.

J519 relay board. Swapped the left and right relay 460 and still same.

The socket that goes behind relay J59. Looks fine. I am waiting to get a multimeter to test if there is power supply from the red/Black cable. Apparently a user from the US forum told me this is the power supply to fuse 41 and 42. No rust there too.

Just looked at Haynes manual - it shows J59 relay does power to those fuses
First check J59 is getting power with multi meter or test light.
if it does -  you could remove the relay and try a jumper wire to see if this restores power to washer and lighter outlets- to confirm if the relay is the problem

I’m no help but I have this same issue, have you got anywhere with it?
