Title: Kennys GTi
Post by: k6kny on March 10, 2010, 01:07:55 am
I thought I'd start a thread on the progress I've made so far with my Golf.....................enjoy

I bought the car in July 2008, it is a 2005 5dr Tornado Red GTi and came with a decent standard spec including:
DSG
Full leather interior
Heated front seats
Sat Nav
Highline computer
Centre arm rest with disc changer
Xenon headlights
Winter pack - Heated screen washers & Headlight washers
18" Monzas

Mods so far:
Colour coded side skirts
Front splitter colour coded red and gloss black
Rear valance colour coded red and gloss black
Lowered on AP coilovers
Audi A6 S-Line 19" alloys
Sat Nav ariel painted gloss black
ED30 gearstick and gaitor
ED30 handbrake cover
Mk6 headlight switch
Interior bulbs all replaced with white LEDs
Front upper and lower grills painted gloss black (GTi badge removed and grill smoothed)
Number plate holder removed and panel smoothed and painted gloss black
Shortened number plate relocated to lower grill
VW R-Line fog grills painted red and gloss black
LED front sidelights
LED rear number plate lights

As it was when I bought it

A few guys I'd spoken to had recommended them as I'd been looking for a set that were not going to make the ride too harsh and TBH I've not been dissapointed.

:congrats:

Had a look at your car today at Udubs. Have you altered the fog surrounds the piece around the actual fog light protruded further than a normal set, or was it just my eyes.

Looked great.  :happy2:

No I haven't altered them that's the way they came, I'm not entirely happy with the fit on them so will be getting some genuine US spec surrounds.  Cheers

Cheers, I saw you too. Was a bit pissed off at that point as the guy on the gate wouldn't let me in until my fuel gauge was down on the red, so had just spent the last half an hour going up and down the dual carriageway in 2nd and 3rd gears to burn off some petrol and then had to wash the car again. So i was well happy to get inside and get a few beers in while getting the car cleaned up

So I made a few changes in preparation for UD's, here's a few pics from the weekend:

New US spec fog grills painted gloss black to match the honeycomb centre grills. Also went back to a chrome VW badge although I'm not sure whether to keep the chrome or go back to a black badge so all opions welcome

Edition 30 front splitter colour coded red with the lip done gloss black

US spec rear bumper (with shortened number plate recess) colour coded red with the lower valance done gloss black

Thanks for looking.

It's been a while so thought I'd update.

I had decided to change the colours on the rear VW badge and my initial plan had been to change the black background to red and the VW badge to black. However after rubbing down the VW badge to remove the red colour I quite liked the look of it, giving it an almost brushed steel effect, which I thought might look good against the red background. So I laquered the VW badge and put it on the car, might not be to everyone's taste but the longer I've had it on the more I like it

I'd also managed to damage both front wheel arches when I had the 19's on with the Audi 255 tyres. The tyres had basically pulled the inner lips of the arches and that had eventually led to the paint flaking off. So I put the Golf into the bodyshop while I was away on holiday to have the damage repaired and the arches rolled to prevent it happening again, it also meant I would be able to lower the coilovers a bit more . Anyway I got back from holiday the on the Thursday before we left for E38 and picked the Golf up that evening. Due to picking it up so late I didn't have time to lower it before going down to E38 but once we were back up the road I tickled it a little bit with the lowering stick

The rears are now all the way down but the fronts can still go a bit lower so I may take the rear spring helpers out to get it that bit lower

When the first lot of grit went down on the roads the polished rims on the 19's did not like it  :sad1:

A bit of elbow grease and they polished up fine, but it was definitely time to change them over to the Monzas for the winter.

Then of course came the snow, and this is what I came out to find the first morning it snowed

Not updated this in a while and unfortunately it's not a good update. A couple of months ago I woke up to find that some dirty fecker had driven down the passenger side of the Golf damaging every panel and knocking off the wing mirror  :(  The road it happened on was icy, and this could have been the cause, but there's no way they would not have felt the impact and there's no excuse for not leaving their details :@

The only consolation I can take from this is at least I had put the Monzas back on for the winter, as they managed to hit both wheels as well, so at least the S-Lines never got damaged.

Anyway after my anger over the damage to the Golf died down I got it into the body shop for repair, and I have to say I was pretty pleased with the results. As the passenger side wing mirror was needing replaced I decided to upgrade to some Mk6 ones, it wasn't a straight unbolt and swap over job but with some minor fettling they went on fine.

With the repair done and new wing mirrors on the Golf was all set for the trip over to the VW Speed.NL Mid Winter Meet, but I just had another couple of wee mods that I wanted to do. Firstly changing the rear VW badge for a chrome Mk6 one and changing the rear wiper to the shorter Scirocco item.

So with that done the Golf was all set for the MWM. Here's a few pics of the Golf at the show.
