Hi guys I was changing my suspension and I noticed I broke my front drivers side abs sensor , so I replaced it, but the light is still on the dash I've got cheap code reader and its not picking up the code, do I need to clear the code for the light to go off or should it go off on its own ?

needs clearing
-
As titchy says it needs clearing -
VW deliberately don't allow faults with critical safety items such as ABS and airbags to clear themselves - this is since the 90's
Afraid you need to get a better code reader
-
Cheers guys

Cleared it still got a abs light traction light and tyre pressure sensor light on, p00285 mechanical failure, not sure where to go from here. The sensor was stuck and I couldn't get it out the only way was to brake sensor out. Any ideas what to do next?

your going to have to try a sensor
for best access take the brake disc shield off.
They do like to rust in - spray penetrating fluid and let it soak in, then with grips try twisting the sensor back and forth. if your lucky it will come out in one piece.
If it brakes up, you just need to dig that thing out of there - I had one break while doing my suspension, I used blow torch and dug it out with a screwdriver.
Clean out the hole, iirc an 8mm drill bit is perfect size for top 2/3rds of the hole - it narrows further down
Grease the new sensor and push it into place

I managed to put the new sensor in its sitting right , I cleared the code but the light keeps coming back on with the same code. Unsure what to do next

Sounds like you need a tone ring, part of the hub.
Does the fault clear then when you drive it it comes back on?

Start the car up abs light on. no traction and pressure sensor light on, abs lights goes off when i first start moving. get to around 20 mph traction control light pressure sensor and abs all come on , I logged the data on the vag com could see that the front right abs sensor was the right speed in line with the other sensors then every so often drops mph compared to the actual speed unlike the others. Could it be something to do with the air gap ?

check the ring for corrosion

Seems odd that the reluctor ring has gone bad after the suspension work - was the drive shaft taken out?
-
Yes mate took the driveshaft out
