Have to agree with the £4000 comment.
Mines an 06 very similar spec with the addition of xenons and new wings, service history etc and I'd be asking £4K for mine.
GLWS if you go ahead.

Contemplating selling my MK5 GTI also so have just run my cars details through AutoTrader and received a valuation of £5040 for a private sale based on good condition. Mine is an 07 plate with 72500 miles.
@Adrian 200bhp (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=70176) GLWS of yours, prices for MK5's do seem to be all over the place as I found when searching for mine.

I was offered £5000 for my 65k miles one from a neighbour that has been looking for one for months. He has been halfway around the country looking and is convinced there are no good ones around. If your one is ok it maybe worth a little more than £4k.

Do you have a FSH, low miles, non modded manual car? PM your number and I will pass it on. He is based in London but will travel.

Someone asked me what I thought mine was worth.

57 plate, 78k, history etc.
Black and 5 door.

I reckon. 5k?

My neighbour went to £6k in the end for my one but I asked him to wait until I could find something to replace mine with which turned out to be a little depressing as the mk6 cars I looked at online looked tired. He gave up waiting yesterday and put a depo on a £8.5k Jap import Pirelli.

Unless it's a mega minter with a tiny amount of babying miles on it, I would personally just use the car as a trade-in bargaining chip on the 7R.  Unless of course you want to hold out for the best possible private sale....but that method comes with dealing with tyre-kicking morons unfortunately.  Depends entirely on your patience and expectations.

If you're not desperate for the max price (and I'm guessing you're not going by what you're looking to replace it with), just get rid of it as a trade-in fella  :happy2:

Did he buy from a broker or directly from a Japanese auction site? If so who did he use?

It was a dealer that specialises in Jap imports. He did show me the advert I am sure you will find it if you google about.

I’d say 4K would get you a quick sale, spec looks good.

Thanks for all the advice and comments. Much appreciated. Ive decided to keep it. Only realy use it at weekends so gonna treat it as an investment. Plan to get it totally stripped diwn and resprayed and get new exhaust etc etc. It drives so nice now and would be silly just to trade it in and lose all the money time and effort ive spent on it.

Probably a good idea, they are great value for how much pleasure they give.
